Fidel
I am almost finished reading 'The Slaughterhouse: Stories from Bangkok's Klong Toey Slum' by Father Joe Maier. This is an excellent read. Fr. Joe has spent 30 years in the slums of Klong Toey and in this book he recounts a number of stories about life in this impoverished but resiliant community. The stories range from the tragic to the touching and really help build an understanding of the lives of the urban poor in Bangkok. Everyone on this board should buy this book... it's only 250 baht and I think some of it goes to charity... don't quote me on that.
Straycat
Hi, I second that. It's far from a literary or documentary masterpiece, but it will gain you a unique insight. The book can be ordered directly from: Bangkok Post -- Post Books
Guest
I'm sold Fidel. Just searched Amazon and couldn't find it. Is it sold at most bookstores in BKK?
