phiketpete
Reported in today's Business Day ( Bangkok). when the new airport opens supposedly in 2005 the departure tax for overseas flights will be 700 baht an increase of 200 baht from today's 500 baht rate at Don Muang. Domestic flights will also have the tax raised i believe to 200 baht. I know that the opening is a long way off but they appear to be talking in terms of todays costs. Thus if it were open today it would cost 700baht
Guest
I'll be happy to pay that if the new airport is a first-rate one a la Singapore or Hong Kong. Don Muang really is tatty.
phiketpete
I agree but the real cost will not be the deaparture tax but the cost in getting to the new airport from the centre of Bangkok. I understand that this will not be easy nor made easier in the forseeable future
ALHOLK
Hi! Aren't there plans to extend the Sukhumvit sky train line to the new airport. Also for us who sometimes go straight to Pattaya the new location should be better, but if I know anything about Thailand the taxis probably won't lower their rates. :hubba: regards ALHOLK
Guest
Yes I heard there are plans for the BTS to go to the new airport. AND... the taxis here are some of the cheapest in the world....relax and enjoy your Sanuk.
samak
Says ALHOLK: but if I know anything about Thailand the taxis probably won't lower their rates. :hubba: you ask for lower taxi rates in thailand? i think they are already on of the lowest in the region; even mainland china has higher rates! ALHOLK
Hi! I wasn't requesting lower over all rates but merely suggesting that the clearly shorter distance should rsult in lower prices to Pattaya which I doubt will happen. I already know that taxis are cheap in Thailand. As an example I took a taxi in Stockholm last week. A 20 minute ride on Sunday evening cost 190 SEK (~900 baht). For this kind of money I could nearly go from BKK to Pa´ttaya. regards ALHOLK
Guest
Hopefully, they will build a high speed train like Shanghai.

MaiLuk
Even when they complete the BTS extension to the airport, just can't see myself lugging around a heavy piece of luggage (or two) up to the nana station, and do a change over or two before arriving at the airport. The BTS is a crowded place.
