Guest
I have always been interested in the meaning of place names. I understand that Aranyaprathet means: Aranya: Forest Prathet: Place Does anyone have any other clues to the multitude of place names in Thailand? khunsanuk
Hi, I think Nakhon Sawan means 'City in Heaven' or 'Place in Heaven'. Roi Et = 101, supposedly after the city having 101 gates, or so I have heard once. Sanuk!
Pescator
Hi KS, That is right. It is as I read it an exaggeration of 11 gates turning into 101. Sounds better that way I guess Cheers Hua Nguu
daeng bireley
"chiang" as in chiang mai means a walled town used in the name of many thai towns and I think the "mai"or new refers to the fact that the "Laan Naa" kingdom moved its capital there.
