Break-In

Well that's seriously shitty.

Obviously an inside job, and they didn't do it in a couple of hours. So that means there are people in that building right now who, if they didn't do it themselves, know who did.

Use that knowledge.

You have been here a long time and it's time to call on a few long time friends from the police dept, to insure your case gets the proper attention. Get it off the Sgt's desk and on to the Captains. No bribes necessary, there are good police out there as well, and this should be pretty simple for them. I'm sure if you were a Thai businessman, the culprits would already be 're-enacting the crime' for the photographers.

Get over the 'kick in the stomach' and get somones elses butt kicked to put a couple of butts in a sling. A Thai wouldn't let them away with this ........... don't you either.

As to rewards ......... not for the coppers, but someone in the building might loosen up quicker ? That works everywhere in the world.

Now get at it ......... today !

Sorry about your most unfortunate situation. I agree with part of your analysis that it had to be an inside job, someone that knew you would be out of town. But I disagree with your assumption that it had to be a Thai person. Have you considered the possibility that the job could of been done by a fellow Farang?

I hope your quickly able to find some resolve to your situation.

greed is what caused the break-in, so use greed to get info:

offer a high reward for the return of some personal items ( not of value to anyone but you)

when they come to get the rewared, be prepared to ask questions with no regard for the well being of the person being questioned.

Sarasin-

Some of you may remeber-maybe not Iused otlive soot soi 8-at th end of Soi 8 Sukhumvit. I rented a charming little house

with a yard and shared it with a friend- a nice fellow who was there when I travelled back and froth from the States...

We were robbed or should I say HE was robbed when I was out of the country. They stole some cash and valuables from him.WQe felt at the tie it was my disgruntled former roomate

who I ousted due to his habit of bring home BGS of suspiciously young ages...(Nuff said)

But my friend did say that the police were VERY UNSYMPATHETIC AND MADE JOKES IN THE SAME MANNER.

TIT-He had his GF with him an Issan grirl and there were all sorts of jokes made regarding her past...in Thai-

very uncivilized-very very unprofessional behavior-

This is typical and I feel for you bro. You do deserve a bit of sympathy-

I am sure you can unravel who did this to you but it may be dangerous. Someone yu know surely knows

( FLY may have a comment on this-as he seems to have more experience with the underbelly than most of us)

Tread carefully and remember time heals BUT IT REALLY is a drag

Sarisin,

Sorry to hear about that. I've been there.

Won't go into detail, as you've got plenty of "I was robbed too" feedback, with good info, however mine was in Malaysia. My solution was to get the biggest f*****g dog I could find. It was not mean (at least it never killed the maid ;)) but I never had any more trouble. Don't know if that's practical in Thailand, but it worked for me......

"My solution was to get the biggest f*****g dog I could find"

or maybe a sound activated barking dog tape ( one that is convincing)

mite deture a few would be theifs.

we live out in the country, have several geese gaurding our yard ( or is it their yard ?) even the neighborhood dogs stay away from our property.

( the geese know to bite where it "counts")

the condo I have in bkk has roving security guards, so far no problems for us, but never know how things will go considering the temptation of robbing a "rich farangs room" .

also, there is a camera in the lobby and parking exit.

I should inquire as to if it is taped. ( we can check the cameras on our tv via the cable system. ) ( funny stuff sometimes watching ppl waiting for the elevators, milling around and generally acting goofey not knowing they are being watched) .

I never realized people ( not just thais, mind you) had so many places to itch or scratch, or dig things out of.

I was burgled about 10 years ago here in the UK - they took my camera (with a film of my only trip to Kanchanaburi still in it), a brand new computer, a few bits of jewellry and laughably a dozen fake watches (Patpong specials) that were waiting collection from friends who had ordered them. They left the 2 genuine Citizen Quartz watches for some strange reason!!

It does initially shake you up. The police were very civil but held out zero hope of recovering any of the property, and although my insurance quickly sent the cheque to replace everything (including my estimate for the watches at 1000 Baht a shot!!), I didn't feel really safe again until I had installed a burglar alarm system.

A good friend gave me the advice that it isn't so much what happens to you in life but how you react to it that counts - we all get our share of good and bad things happening to us and there isn't always any idea of fairness or reasonableness about it. It just is.

After the initial trauma I just got determined to be the winner over those who perpetrated the crime by not letting it affect me or make me behave differently from the person I had been beforehand. This was the main way I made some sort of sense of it and returned to normal.

Not sure if this will make any sense to you, but good luck dealing with the aftermath, and remember that 99.9% of the people you know are still exactly the same people as they were before the burglary. Take care.

Says uniformguy:

the Perth forensic police arrived at my house 7 hours after I phoned......I had to....quickly crawl around and pick up all my pornographic photos off the floor before the police arrived. I had just finished when they turned up.

Wow! Can't begin to imagine how many photo's that must have been! :hubba:

Sorry to hear this. I have heard many times, that burglaries are definitely not uncommon and I have heard many times, the security guard is involved. Who knows best about your daily routine, when you leave the house and when you return? Usually, this is more likely to happen in the cheaper condos though.

Imo, staying in the building is not advisable, as this one is definitely to be classified as unsafe.

Terribly sorry to hear this. Some good advice here, dogs, ccv sysytems. Best are cameras which look like ordinary objects. Wireless too for obvious reasons. Seen a few for sale in MBK, but check the quality. You want infrared LED's that actually work and are not just props. Marking your valuables may help, and not keeping cash on hand is a good idea also. If you must keep some, the best hiding spots are in plain site. When you surveyed the damaged/rummaged areas of your place, what didn't they hit? Probably mundane items. Use these to hide valuables if you just have to keep cash/jewelry in your home.

Bottom line though, if you have it, the bad guys can take it. Specially if your suspicions are right and it was an inside job.

Finally, if you want to be nasty, there are lots of booby traps to set if you feel they are coming back.
