unit731
Any specific recommendations for reasonable hotel in Chiang Mai? [color:"green"] [/color]
Guest
Chiang Mai Plaza Hotel link Nice place, near night market. Breakfast was good. Has pool. Lobby very impressive, with traditional Thai entertainment. Checked in with my BKK b/g, and no problems, so I guess is guest friendly??? This was my first ever b/g, and remember walking in to lobbly, and her just saying :WOW" with big eye's. She liked it. :: This was 4 years ago, but I was very happy. Only stayed 1 night, but they granted us a free late check-out. It is a newer hotel. HT

KinHoiKhun
I was not impressed with the Rydges. While new it is already falling apart. The rooms were dirty and the tour groups were finishing off the breakfast at 7:30. The mini bar was over priced and subject of a dispute over what was used. I have seen some freelancer action in the beer bar. I also understand that if you ask for the manager he will provide you with a short time room. lopburi3
I would check the below two links for what I believe is the best price on a number of good hotels. That recomendation from B-B has to be in jest at it is the most expensive place going. Chiang Mi Online Asiarooms
Guest
I have enjoyed the Pornping Hotel. I found it very reasonable and near to the action. I recently stayed at the Rydges. I was not very impressed. There were lots of tourist groups that dominated the breakfast and hotel. They have really raised there prices since they opened for business several years ago. It did not look that new to me. I did notice quite a few TG but they seemed to be brought in for a japanese tour group staying there. They looked pretty young. Guest
I decided to try the Rydges recently and was similarly unimpressed. Very over rated. I did notice a troop of Thai girls being escorted by the manager to a group of Japanese tourists by the pool. One was a real looker. At breakfast I saw her with the manager! Ranger
My GTG in England will be accompanying me on my next trip. Will non guest friendly hotels assume she's a prostitute as this won't be taken very well.Thanx Rusty, If you check in together, this shouldn't be a problem. I have stayed at many non guest friendly places with the wife and haven't had any problems with the hotel staff. Of course, you'll always get the occassional disapproving looks from the Farang tourist couples, but fuck em! Ranger
