Now for most litter it naturally go in the bins, whereas cigerette ends could potentially lit up a bin, so I always though a perfect way to dispose them are in the gutter, which severel thais have approved on so far. Well that was untill today when BKK's finest saw me drop the fag in the drain & told me I should have dropped it in the green bins & there's a B2k fine otherwise. Being up in saphan quay I felt pretty safe from such 'scams', but did not see any other solution than to pay up unless I wanted to waste some time at the station :: Anyways lowballing with B100 or even B500 did not seem to work, but hey he already offered his best B1000 first time discount & a receipt so there it was! Solution is to smoke near a bin - avoid setting it on fire by stamping it out first, or using the metal plate most bins have to stub out. Garbage is all over the goddamn place and no Thai seems to think twice about tossing a plastic bag out of his window, yet a farang who tosses a cigarette butt inot the gutter (a butt will be gone within a few days, rather than 1,000s of years for the plastic bag) gets fined 2,000 Baht. I have seem many times on the Thai trains the cleaning staff come through the train with a big, plastic garbage bin collecting litter. "Great - they're getting better about rubbish disposal", you think... Then when the bag is full you see them chuck the thing out the door of the train into some farmer's field beside the tracks!!! chilli13 Posted January 9, 2004 Author Report Share Posted January 9, 2004 exactly - that's what I meant by 'scam'. like having those huge signs in english along lower suk... but hey I guess I should be lucky with my first time offence 50% discount on the B2000. wonder if he'd remember me next time actually the whole time it felt like a scam, but I was surpriced how well english they spoke & how many 'proper' forms they had. And when at one point I though going to the station would sort them out, but then again if that would have meant paying the full B2k & wasting half a day I'm glad I didn't do it. by the way what's the 2nd guy from the motobike team supposed to do when I'm being escorted to the station? just hang around on the street waiting for more smokers p.s. when I showed the ticket to the GF, whose father works in the police department somewhere, she just laughed at me instead of sorting out the 'scam' so I guess I'll just be warned :onfire: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
