Pianoman
I will be attending a proper Thai wedding & Reception the first part of Feb. at a Nice Bangkok Hotel.. As the parents of the bride are very traditional, I do not want to upset or insult them in any way... I know that White is not to be worn at Chinese weddings (considered bad luck), but is there anything Special that I should know about or colors that I should not wear at a Thai Wedding??? Thanks in advance... Pianoman
BelgianBoy
Pianoman, All 6 proper Thai weddings I attended in Bangkok over the last years were always in suit and tie, nothing else / less would do. You can also politely ask...... Is white not the color at funerals ? Cheers !
Pianoman
Thanks BelgianBoy, Yes I know that white is for burying not marrying in China, but did not know about Thailand... Both Bride & Groom are saying "Casual Attire" as most of the relatives are lower middle class from Issan and won't be dressed too nice.. But again, I do not want to insult or offend anyone with an "Unlucky" color... Pianoman
Old Hippie
I was told "don't wear black" to an Issarn wedding held at the bride's house. She wore pink, and he a sort of Gray Thai "wedding shirt."
BelgianBoy
Pianoman, Issan middle class and casual ? I would still go there in suit and tie, jacket and / or tie are very easy to remove, right ? If colors are important, a suit in gray, dark gray of bleu would do, usual office colors..... Cheers ! Pianoman
BelgianBoy, My concern is that with Gray Suit, what about Black shoes, Black Belt, etc..??? Or am I being too sensitive regarding this "Color Thing"???? Pianoman
Guest
Too sensistive.....black shoes, black belt are very normal at Thai Weddings....When you see the military guys there in there shined black boots!!!!!! Normal suit would be fine, but, preferably not a black suit. Sanukboot.
Fiery Jack
...And don't forget the black armband, worn as a sombre symbolic expression of one's heartfelt and true sympathy for the unfortunate groom. jack
lopburi3
I wouldn't worry that much. Although the suit/tie crowd seem to have taken over in Bangkok I still refuse to wear a noose around my neck and stick to Thai style safari suits and don't feel too out of place yet.
