dsab
Do the colours of the Taxis in BKK have any meaning ? When I first came to BKK about two years ago, there were two differrent colour schemes for taxis. They were YELLOW/GREEN and BLUE/RED. These days there are: YELLOW/GREEN BLUE/RED WHITE/RED GREEN PURPLE ORANGE (saw several of them today) BLUE METALLIC RED ... and they are increasing by the day. Are that just different companies, that entered the market lately, or is there some kind of scheme/logic behind it?
Nervous_Dog
Yep - there is a increase, the green ones are gas powered I am to understand, JB
..
I think green, purple & orange are all the same company. Regardless, I like them as they are all new cars. I call them regularly when going out! Cheers, SD

Khun_Kong
The new solid pastel/neon colors are nice cabs. My guy yesterday even had his dealer's price sticker still in the window. 702,000THB + 30,000THB for , I think, delivery and prep.
Guest lazyphil
Do bkk cabbies take a bkk ''knowledge'' test like in London or can anyone drive a cab?
shygye
Hell, do they even have a drivers license.
lopburi3
The colors represent the company owning them and this has been the case since the change to meter taxi. Downtown one company seems to have most of the business so you see more of them but in the outlying areas we have always had a large mixture. They recently ran out of colors and now have single colors for some companies. The yellow/green is reserved for privately owned taxis.
Nervous_Dog
LP - No real test at all, cost I think is 300 Baht, unlimited number of licences as well. There used to be a bloke on this board who owned a number of taxis here? JB
