Crash999 Posted June 7, 2004 Report Share Posted June 7, 2004 I was 24 when I first came to Thailand... I had a Thai girlfriend in the US whom I met at graduate school. My plan was to meet her in Thailand after having spent 6 months studying in Japan... but our scheduled wound up not coinciding so I came to Thailand alone. She arranged for a friend of hers to escort me from place to place- he dutifully showed me around the Grand Palace, markets, toured the river, etc- but nowhere near the bars or even Patpong. I thought that having him around all the time was a bit much, but attributed it to possible safety issues. Later she changed her mind, somehow, and I stranded in BKK alone. My friend just told me that in the sukhumvit area are some cheap hotels, which I told to a taxi driver.... I stayed 2 weeks in Soi 4... It was really a big shock for me when I first saw Nana. I even felt in love in a girl working at rainbow. She was a newbie as I and couldn't speak one word english!! I was extremely fortunate to have an "old hand" colleague who ushered me into the wonderfully wacky world of Patpong on our way to the old Takara massage parlor. And life was never the same again. A lapse from 19 to 53 and since then I believe next week will be number 17 since Songkran of '01. Now, how about ones shortest time away....I'm going crazy and will leave LOS and return 24 days later. Crazy is a luxury that is part of my life! Good thing, I need it. Had an uncle working in Bangkok and could stay for free,although I had no g/f experience during my very first trip. Just temples and beaches and white girls ......Went to Samui on a long tail boat, because at that time there was no airport and no ferry.
