I cannot believe that some one thinks that being fined and deported is sufficient price to pay for breaking the law of the country YOU choose to live in.

This is an attitude that continually gets REAL working expats a bad name in any country. These people just wanted to live in Thailand, couldn't real jobs, and were willing to do anything to do so, including ripping ignorant people of their life savings.

As we say in the good ole US of A:

IF YOU CAN'T DO THE TIME DON'T DO THE CRIME

(I loved the quote in the BKK Post:

"I didn't really know what they were doing" the 30 year old said "The company hired me as a telephone operator to contact investors and and said they would pay me. So I thought, why not")

YEAH RIGHT, YOU FUCKING WANKER (obviously been hanging around too many Brits)

In summary:

Let them rot in a Thai Jail. If they did this in their own country they would be rotting the same. Only regret is the main people seem to have gotten away, regardless,, this does not excuse the behavior of the ones caught, just exposes their basic greed.

Fuck them all

You can probably tell I'm a little angry about these fuckwits.

Thai share scam suspects fined

The court sentenced the 78 foreigners for overstaying and illegally working in Thailand.

It fined the foreigners between 5,000 and 8,000 baht (£76 to £123) each and gave them one-year suspended jail terms, a court official said.

Following their sentencing, the 78 were transported back to the immigration department where they will be processed before deportation.

Absolutely incredible, how did they get away with it?

Such pitiful fines and a deportation for the misery they have inflicted on the 'investors' they have conned.

'When they were taken away by police on Thursday many claimed they had no idea what was going on.'

I was always lead to believe that ignorance was no defence in the eyes of the Law. So what happened here?

What happened with the FBI and Australian Federal Police involvment? Are they satisfied with minimal fines and the ringleaders getting away?

With any luck the FBI will be waiting for the Americans at the gate on arrival at US. Don't know the equivalent Brit and Aussie law enforcement agencies, but hopefully the same. As for the ringleaders, maybe they will be tracked down, certainly their identities are known.

I'm not surprised. All are now sentenced for working in LOS on tourist visa.

In which country they actually committed fraud? Maybe in Thailand (but not sure), their victims stay in Aus, NZ and HK. Why should this country prosecute and jail before kicking out. No, send them to the countries of their victims or the US.

Looks like 72 of the employees were just fined 5,000 to 8,000 baht. Not even deported.

6 will be deported as they overstayed their visa., They were also sentenced to two-month jail terms suspended for one year and Bt8,000 fines

2 are in big trouble as they were managers. They according to the NATION will be charged with fraud and violating securities regulations - and could face up to five years in jail. Inquiries are also being made about cross-border money laundering.

I agree with Thaihome and the Stickman, these people should do some time in jail - I think a year or two in a Thai jail is fair punishment, and would serve as a deterrent to others who are tempted to make a living by less than honest means.

Most of these scum (no offence, Scumbaggio) would have no problem cheating someone out of their life savings, which ruins a person's life, pretty much the same as if they had got them hooked on drugs or caused them a permanent disabling injury.

I hope that these assholes get prosecuted in the countries they are being deported to. Actually, what should happen is, since the victims were in Australia, the Thai government should extradite them to Oz. I think the Oz crown attorneys would be highly motivated to have a go at them.

By the way, the news report mentioned a company, Benson Dupont Capital Management Inc., that was involved in the scam. I did a search on the Net, and found the site:

http://www.hksfc.org.hk/eng/investor/html/alert.htm

This site has a warning from the HK Securities Commission about this and other firms, many of which operate in Thailand, HK and other countries.
