Pom Michael
The government made a big issue out of the closing and opening times for large retailers, but almost nothing was mentioned when this was almost completely rescinded last week. Big shopping centers can now open at 10 am and close at 10 pm. So, back to basically normal.
Straycat
i dunno, i think it's quite screwed....tesco at Onnut used to be open 24 hrs -- hardly back to normal
Pom Michael
Carrefour is on Onnut, Tesco-Lotus on Soi 50. But, all the 7-11's and food markets like Villa and Foodland can be open 24 hours. While it should be a business decision and not a government mandate, I guess I would rather have the hypermarkets closes at night and allow the nightclubs and disco to open from 10 pm to 10 am !!!! Now that would be an improvement.
Straycat
Well, gotta agree with that. (Tesco at BTS Onnut, BTW)
iuytrede
It's not only the inconvenient opening times that are by far not back to normal. Long lines waiting at the gates at opening time in the morning. In the evening the shopping centers are now very crowded. Everybody has to rush to beat the closing times, traffic jams around Onnut much worse than before (at about 9 or 10 pm). Carrefour now closes Soi 79 at 10 pm (used to be after midnight), everybody who happens to come later must climb over their gate. All foodstalls, street vendors etc close as well (they depend on the customers of the shopping centers). After 10 pm the whole area is dead. It used to be possible to get a motocycle taxi at 2 am in our soi (and it was easy at midnight) - nowadays you have to walk. But nowadays everybody is in bed by 10 pm anyway, watching TV...
