rickfarang
Any thoughts on what caused this and whether its likely to last more than a month or two? Not good at all from some people.

rickfarang
I read this. Some disagree with the article's conclusion that its the influx of foreign capital, but some kind of a regional halo effect from the strengthening yet. I wonder if this is likely to turn around in the next couple of months. I have to bring a bunch of dollars into the country in a few months, and I'm gretting over the difference between the interest in a short term CD and zero % in a Thai bank a few months early to hedge against another drop. Note that if there was some way to obtain a reasonable return on my deposit in a Thai bank, this a much easier decision. (Another joy of being discrimated against becasue I am a foreigner.) chuckwoww
The Chinese are talking about 'broadening their foreign exchange base'. This could be code for selling their dollar surplus. Certainly gold has been moving up.
Flashermac
Rule of thumb: whenever I convert money, I am on the short end. So just watch me and you'll know when the dollar-baht rate changes.

enigma
I looked at the last three decimal points of the rate today and thought "good, the baht is falling back again." Then I noticed it wasn't 39, but 38. WTF? The Shin sale closed already. Why isn't the baht falling back now?
