gregchambers
want to do three nights in Singapore with tgf, want cheap hotel but not in the red light district. Basic, clean with toilet is fine. Shoppong likely to be more important than discos with regard to location.

samak
there are a couple of cheaper tourist hotels close to Clark Quay like the river view, concorde, copthorn king, miramar, robertson quay. should all be under 100 SGD it's also close to orchard road and suntek city. 5 minutes by car each
MooNoi
Head to Keong Saik Road in the Chinatown district. Check out Royal Peacock Hotel (small rooms, but cosy and well appointed. Also check out Keong Saik Hotel, and "1959 Hotel" (my favourite) across the road. Should be able to get a room at about $75-80 SGD. Forget staying in a big concrete block at a "chain" hotel - stay in one of these cool places which are renovated Chinese shophouses that you just don't see in Singapore anymore. Do a search on the net for the names. FlyP
gregchambers
thanks for the links, eventually ended up on www.wotif.com and booked a hotel for circa 50 sdollars a night. Also bought the tickets from airasia.com at just over 3000 baht return per person - works out at about 8500 baht for flight and two nights in Singapore - compared with a bout 13k from travel agents in Bkk (they add on an awful lot of taxes to the quoted prices). See how it works out next week. Won't bother wasting a day wandering around Bkk travel agents again, think they will be out of business in a couple of years! lembeh
>Head to Keong Saik Road in the Chinatown district. Keong Saik is actually a "red light" area if I recall correctly.. -j-
Nervous_Dog
It was a very famouus one when I was a kid, however it is a odd blend of really cute bouquet (Spelling?) hotels and some "Seedier" places. Quite nice, but VERY small rooms, and your paying more for "Ambiance" than substance. Cute if your looking for "Old" sinllypore, but for your money, you'll get a bargain at a bigger place. Oddly wnough, Jing-Joe was conceived in a hotel there! DOG
