Dentist in Bangkok? Dental Hospital Soi 49?

Can any of you expats please make a recommendation on a dentist/dental clinic in BKK. Right now I've made an appointment the dental clinic at Bumrungrad. A friend of mine, however recommended Dental Hospital, Suk Soi 49. Said they had their own lab, so things like crowns would be faster. I'm looking for best quality materials and speedy service. I'll need at least one crown to be made and will only stay in LOS for 3 weeks.

I'll arrive in BKK on afternoon of July 26 and would be happy to meet some of you guys on Friday night. smile.gif" border="0

I think it a very good value hospital. However if you want it done in 3 weeks, you really will have to pressure them. The dentists who work there have like part-time assignments besides jobs at other places (a common Thai situation). So a dentist doing your root canals or preparing the crown will work let's say on thursday and saturday afternoon. So you can not see them a few times a week to finish things quickly. I guess you could discuss this situation at a first visit, to see what can be done about it.

In my experience, prices just vary at different places. Always a good idea to ask how much it will cost, although I think most offices will have fixed prices, and will not charge you more than these.

Bumrungrad is an excellent hospital and also has a fine dental clinic based on what I have heard. There are many specialists there dealing in the various areas of dentistry (ie different DDS for Perio, extractions, root canals and Crowns (I was given many business cards for each dentist depending on specialty when I inquired).

I ended up at Phiya Thai 2 (5 minute walk from Sanom Pao BTS Station). Got great service and prices a bit cheaper than Bumrad. (although that was not reason I ended up there....it was on a friends recomendation who is an MD). The dentist speaks good english (Staff very little English but they were friendly) and prices are about 20-30% cheaper than Bumrad. For example normal cleaning is about 800 baht, deep root planing about 1200- or 1300 baht, root canal was about 4000 baht and crowns come in 3 styles 9000 for non precious material, 11000 for semi-precious and 13000 for precious (gold). I think the price for Bumra. was about 2000-3000 more for each type of crown. I was happy with dental care and interesting aspects in thailand I thought were:

1.the dentist does the teeth cleaning and not a dental technician like the states

2. The dentist puts a mask over your face with a hole over the mouth for the dentist to do the cleaning and drilling.

3. Dentist, who I used, makes at least an annual trips to the states for conferences and training.

4. When the DDS administered novacaine, I did not feel the stick of the needle. When I told Thai friends about this lack of pain they said that the Thai Dentists practice this and the less pain the better the dentist or so it is thought. Anyway, I really had to ask the dentist if he had given me a shot.

good luck

I went to the dental clinic in soi 49, great place. After telling them that I am a phobiac, the sent me to one of their doctors specialised in dental care for children. She gave me some pills which made me extremely happy so the whole procedure was bearable. She was only surprised that I went out to have a cigarette in the middle of the procedure. She thought the dose she gave me would not allow me to walk. Well, years of substance abuse in my misspent youth must have given me some form of high tolerance...

Whatever, great place, but you better have a insurance, otherwise the bill will kill you.

I am a phobiac myself. I frequently suffer through the procedures, sometimes with racing pulse. I sometimes think I will pass out. I take some sedatives and a beta-blocker(to slow the heart beat) before I go, which somewhat helps. What kind of drugs did they give you? One more question, the dentist that gave them to you worked on children, did he also do the work on you?

Anyway, good advice, I may ask for similar treatment next time.

It looks like dental hospital is more expensive than Bumrungrad from what I read.Cleaning cost 1100 baht. One time they did some exceptional procedure, called deep scaling which set me back 1600 baht.

Price of a crown, with root canals, about 25000 baht. Crown described as follows, crown-porcelain fused to high noble metal.
