- Marian Hossa was back from missing Slovakia's last two games, and it didn't take long for him to show his presence as he had a goal and two assists in the game en route to a well-deserved 5-2 win at Sikonto Arena Sunday night.

- No team's lead has been safe against the Swiss at this year's tournament,

and today Russia needed a full 60 minutes of hard skating to net a deceivingly lopsided 6-3 win against a persistent Swiss squad. The Russians took another step forward in the race with Sweden for first place in Group F.

- The Czech Republic beat Canada 6-4 at Riga Arena tonight before 7.474 fans to move into second place ahead of Canada, now third, in Group E. Jaroslav Balastik's third-period goal stood up as the winner

- It was a battle of Scandinavian nations Sunday afternoon at Riga Arena, but it was nothing like the Sweden-Finland final in Turin. Finland beat Norway 3-0 as goalie Fredrik Norrena recorded his first shutout of Riga 2006.

The win gives Finland seven Qualifying Round points and sets the stage for a showdown with Team Canada on Monday for first place in Group E.

quarter final results from Yesterday:

CANADA - SLOVAKIA 4:1 (0-1,1-0,3-0)

"Canada exploded for three goals in the third period to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Slovakia 4-1 tonight at Riga Arena to earn a date with Sweden in one semi-final on Saturday.

Playing excellent defense, Canada stayed out of the penalty box and waited patiently for its scoring chances to turn into goals. The team got goals from four different players and outshot the Slovaks 42-23. Canada had to kill off only two penalties all game, one late when the score was settled."

SWEDEN - USA 6:0 (2-0,2-0,2-0)

"Tre Kronor's hopes of double IIHF gold in 2006 are alive. Mika Hannula scored three goals and Johan Holmqvist got the shutout as Sweden marched to a 6-0 quarter-final victory over the USA at Riga Arena Wednesday afternoon. The win gives the Swedes a May 20 semi-final date with Canada".

RUSSIA - CZECHIA 3:4 overtime (1:0,0:1,2:2)

"This is a young team with a great future," said Krikunov of his Russian squad. "I hope next year in Moscow many players come back and compete again."

FINLAND - BELARUS 3:0 (1:0,0:0,2:0)
