from the official site:

The 70th IIHF World Championship in Riga is now over. Another chapter of international hockey is in the books, and as we say goodbye to Riga, we must take a look back at the last three weeks of hockey to see how posterity will remember this tournament. So, here is a subjective look at the many highs

- Game 3 Denmark predictably trails Canada 3-0 in the game and then shockingly recovers to tie the score 3-3. Canada prevails 5-3 but not without a bit of sweat and hard work.

- Game 6 Switzerland beats Italy 3-1, which is no great moment in itself. But, in the second period, Swiss forward Martin Pluss causes a penalty shot and then is awarded one himself. When he takes his shot, the goalie moves too soon and Pluss re-takes the shot. He misses both :doah:, and Italian John Parco misses his.

Switzerland wins the game.

- Game 7 Russia hammers Kazakhstan 10-1 and Evgeni Malkin scores a sensational goal in the process. Alexander Ovechkin has a hat trick.

- Game 24 Sweden and Switzerland play to an exciting 4-4 tie, the Swiss rallying from 4-2 down in the third. The game is delayed 75 minutes, though, because a large chunk of ice comes loose. This is the only glitch in an arena that was built in the preceding months from scratch inside a large convention hall.

- Game 41 Italy tied Slovenia 3-3 with a late goal that ensures the Italians stay in the top pool for 2007 while sending the Slovenians down to Division I for next year.

- Game 51 The Czechs beat the Russians 4-3 in the tournament's best and most thrilling game. Intense, pro-Russian fans, dazzling rushes from Malkin and Ovechkin, great attacks by the Czechs. This game has it all.

- Game 56 Sweden totally shuts down the Czech Republic, winning 4-0 and becoming the first nation to win gold at the Olympics and the IIHF World Championship in the same year.
