I'm not sure that it's because people from BKK are not fond or look down on Laos. I think it's just their blind Nationlist pride. Where they simply view everything Thai as superior. A Thai neighbor gave me a few about a year ago that he brought back from Laos. He liked it as well. Personally I really enjoyed the Angkor Beer in Cambodia.
