Palatkik
I notice in hotels in Pattaya they have a number of TV foreign channels that are not part of UBC program. What system do these hotels get their feed from? I noticed recently in Koh Samui a similar choice available such as CNNfN, Fox, BBCWorld etc, no movies though... Think I'll stick with UBC for now which seems to have a more select if pricier(?) choice albeit with annoying ad cut outs, though good to know what the alternatives are? rickfarang
I suspect that a lot of the programming in resort hotels is bootleg, and not normally available inside Thailand.
limbo
Palatkik, In Samui you probably watched UBC cable.
Straycat
there are other alternatives, as for example mentioned in this thread in bkk i used to have another, considerably cheaper, service than UBC with CNN, FoxNews & some Australian channels plus loads of Chinese & Thai crap. I think it was 1000 Bath for 3 months. Can't remember the name of it though ::
Palatkik
Thanks for link. It looks like JSAT Tv is one service provider alternative to UBC.
Nervous_Dog
JSAT can get you better channels than UBC, but it will also cost you a LOT more, hard to believe. What you watch in Pattaya is either Chonburi Cable TV pr Pattaya Cab;e TV. These used to be pirate cable TV but now they are semi legit. You can subscribe for as little as 300 baht a month and get good service. Both True and ADC (AIS) are both about to launch PAY TV, however it will be aimed at the Thai audience, which UBC does a great job of ignoring! In most parts of THailand, and even now in Bangkok you can get cable TV that uis NOT UBC or the True (Old Asia Cable) DOG
Guest
I see lots of unused ( not being used now) C band antennas around in phuket: I also notice ( here on west coast usa), many channels unencrypted stations on several trasponders. same same in thailand?? Nervous_Dog
Most transponders here are going encrypted as more platforms pop up, the content owner wants $ in return. C Band being unused as the original may have been free but now not so. Many still "Free" but I know more than half wont be in a year or two, DOG
