Flashermac
Just who do they think they will find that can do those various things anyway? And notice there is no term break, as there is for instructors. p.s. This is a government "open admission" university, similar to Ramkhamhaeng. They have plenty of money. Flashermac
The Thai Ministry of Universities has not increased the base pay for foreign university lecturers since 1992! Right now it is 17,580 baht a month, plus 8,000 baht housing. Some govmt universities are adding to that -- from 3,000 more to 6,000 baht more. But it is still pathetic. As a result, even name universities (Chula, Thammasat) have had to drop their standards just to get some native speaker lecturers in English. A BA and say a year of teaching somewhere can get you hired nowadays. (I remember a friend in the TU English Language Institute asking me a few years ago if I knew any native speakers who wanted a job. The term had started and they were still short handed. He said, "We're looking for warm bodies.") The private unies are generally a bit better, but still not all that much. One might note that when the govmt unie pay and housing was set, it equalled US$1,000. Nowadays, it is more like $650 a month. Pay rises are almost no-existent too, and if you do get one it might amount to an extra 500 baht a month. Thaksin opened his own modestly named Shinawatra University some years ago. He announced he wanted the tops in Thai national lecturers, only with PhDs earned in the US, UK, Canada or Oz. And the pay for those PhDs? Uh ... 40,000 baht a month. Private secondary schools are actually paying better than universities in Thailand nowadays! Go figure. p.s. Another thing: your education and experience doesn't change your salary. A BA and no teaching experience or training gets you the same as a PhD and 20 years experience.
