Mobile Phone Connectivity in Bangers

All,

Okay. Just back from Bangkok yesterday after a few days holiday down there in the Mango. I have a new phone, a Nokia, 10,000 baht job, with SIM. Plus the wife's phone (which is now mine as she loves the new Nokia and I just traded her off for her 2 year old one, as I just want to make and recieve calls, not caring about face and the new phone thingie ::) but, in Bangkok I had more dropped calls and total non-calls then I have ever had before. What is this? The rain? I maybe got through to people a dozen times while I made a hurdred or more calls. Always got 'Network Busy' or just a total disconnect. Had people call me only to get a disconnect before I could even say hello. And, called the correct numbers many times, and got connected to a wrong number (this happened quite a bit!), or the phone would ring and ring yet as soon as the person answered the call it would disconnect. What the hell is going on here? BTW, the SIM is a DTAC card. I don't have nearly anything close to this problem when using the phones in the Surin area. What the fuck?

Hi Cent,

we have one specialist of these problems as a member here but I've not seen him post for a long time.

Both DTAC and AIS/1-2-call have the problem of selling too many sim-cards with low rates without increasing the capacity of the networks - 1-2-call is worse than DTAC BTW. Phoning to an other phone using the same system can require 1-5 attempts in BKK and Pattaya - I guess the same in other tourist areas - but if you want to phone to an other operator maybe 10-20 before you get through especially in the evenings. If I use my swedish sim-card which cost around 12 baht/min and can use any operator no problem at all. So I suspect that the operators have downgraded the priority of the cheap sim-cards.

Cheers

elef,

Heard this about AIS, but hadn't heard DTAC was doing the same thing. Frustrating as hell. Had people call me, SMS me. Tried to call them back. Never once got through. Called KS all day Monday and the fucking thing just kept coming up 'Network Busy' the whole damned day! Looks like I'll need to get one of the better calling systems? Monthly bill rather than SIM? Who's out there that has a decent quality connectivity?

Even with SMS.

Miss P sent me sms (her card DTAC, mine 1 2 call)

Didn't get it. We caught up 15 minutes later...no dramas...Why you not reply, she said....didn't get says me !!!

5 fucking hours later I received the SMS

Yep both AIS and 1-2 call have network problems.

I know it as I there are almost 100-200 sms exchanged daily between the miss and me......

I would say an average 5-6 dont reach her or me or are incomplete etc...

WHAT THE . . . . ! How much is she paying per SMS? Don;t know if many people realise this, but SMS is the highest markup for a Mobile Opperator.

They use off demand bandwidth, it's small amout of bandwidth, and they can charge a nice fee for it.

CHeaper to call using VOIP by far and less misundertanding IMHO

DumSoda,

Hey, was sorry to have missed you. Was out and about with the BlackTiger and Dog and some others. Wish you had been around. Next time mate. I'll be in the LOS until late November. Let's catch up next time you're in town. Or, come up this way for a couple. Surin has a new a-go-go. We now have 2!!! :-) Not a bad place either, with some good lookers and fun lasses. Hoping to get Tiger up here next week maybe.

try international roaming SIM so you can choose the local network that actually works at the time you wish to call :neener:

seriously I keep heering of network problems of all networks especially when making inter network calls(calls between 2 different NWs), so simply keep your DTAC SIM & hope for better luck next time ;)

SMS surely is the highest markup, but should in 99,x% of the cases come thru without hours of delay otherwise its next to useless & should be avoided!
