samak
yeah, that's really true. work was the only reason i came to LOS. and I did not partake in the nightlife during the first couple of months as i simply had no time (employer's JV company was in a pretty lousy situation) i visited the first gogo bar around 3-4 months after i arrived in bangkok! then a bit more after things got sorted out... MadStockBroker
unless u moved here for work then any other reason hardly qualifies u as expat.
..
Eh? What does work have to do with being an expatriate? ++++++++ From dictionary.com: ex·pat n. An expatriate. ex·pa·tri·ate v. tr. 1. To send into exile. See Synonyms at banish. 2. To remove (oneself) from residence in one's native land. v. intr. 1. To give up residence in one's homeland. 2. To renounce allegiance to one's homeland. n. 1. One who has taken up residence in a foreign country. 2. One who has renounced one's native land. adj. Residing in a foreign country; expatriated: ?She delighted in the bohemian freedom enjoyed by the expatriate artists, writers, and performers living in Rome? (Janet H. Murray). +++++ Nope, nothing about work. An expat is simply a citizen of one country who lives in another. Regards, SD

Guest
It's true that all options were not provided. I was posted here 12 years ago to help review and control the activities of a US-Thai JV company. I worked myself out of that job (part of a team that discovered massive fraud on the part of our Thai JV partner), but the 1997 financial crisis provided me with excellent new job opportunities and I have been here ever since.
