Mentors Posted October 4, 2006 Report Share Posted October 4, 2006 THE NATION THAI requests passengers to check in to international flights 3 hours in advance Thai Airways International requests the assistance of passengers flying out of Suvarnabhumi Airport, to checki n 3 hours in advance for international flights and 1 hours in advance for domestic flights, in order to decrease traffic jams routed to and from the airport. Flg. Off. Apinan Sumanaseni, THAI's President, said that following the official opening of Suvarnabhumi Airport on 28 September 2006, there have been several people coming out to the airport who are both passengers and observing public, both inside and outside the airport terminal area. This has resulted in traffic congestion on the roads within the airport area. Therefore, the company requests the assistance of passengers traveling THAI flights to check in as follows: Domestic flights: Arrive at the airport for check-in at least 1 hours before actual departure time International flights: Arrive at the airport for check-in at least 3 hours before actual departure time Passengers flying with THAI may check in to flights at Suvarnabhumi Airport on the 4th Floor, as follows: Gate 1: Passengers flying Royal First Class and Royal Silk Class for international flights may check-in at Counter Rows A and B Gate 2: Passengers flying Royal Silk Class and Economy Class for domestic flights may check-in at Counter Row C Gate 4: Passengers flying Economy Class for international flights may check-in at Counter Rows H and J. --- better not to leave the Airport, do camping on your holiday all the time on the Suvarnabhumi Airport Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yep, the check in queue was enormous when I turned up the other day at row H backing up to the entrance door! Notice I say queue in the singular as someone has decided to queue everyone up in a single snake line queue for all international flights for all check in counters on row H - same story on row J. Why they donâ??t assign individual queues per flight per check in counter I wonder? Most of the other 360 check in counters for other airlines were empty. Neo Posted October 4, 2006 Report Share Posted October 4, 2006 Uhh, wasn't the reason for the new airport so it could become a bigger regional hub? Yet from all accounts it seems they built an airport that can't even handle the capacity of the one it is replacing. This doesn't sound like just a opening snaffoo, but that they are in serious problems. You would think if they planned for 3-4 runway airport they would have the infrastructure behind it. Evel_Penivel Posted October 4, 2006 Report Share Posted October 4, 2006 Three hours in advance is pretty much the standard these days, at least for intercontinental flights to/from the U.S. or U.K. Whether one massive queue or separate queues for different flights are used is a point of discussion. The "one big queue" approach is gaining favor because it eliminates the possibility of people deliberately or unintentionally standing in the wrong queue. If there is a long queue and a short queue, many people will stand in the short queue even if they're aware it's not for their flight. They are betting on the clerk checking them in anyway because that would take less time and effort than arguing about moving to the correct queue. A lot of the check-in related problems aren't unique to Suvarnabhumi Airport. I've noticed similar situations at Newark Liberty, JFK and London Gatwick in recent months. Heightened security is resulting in passengers having to queue for longer and longer periods. Since the 1960's, every passenger on El Al flights has been asked to check in three hours prior to departure. Odd that all flights to anywhere on TG all check in the same line on row H or same line on row J. I don't get it. Maybe the guy infront of you in same queue has a flight 1 hour after yours but you still queue up in same line behind. Haven't seen the likes of it anywhere before! Now they have to deal with and sort out luggage from more flights with more people checking is earlier. It does piss me off when they have one cattle line for all flights, and 1/2 the podiums are not staffed...customer service in the industry as really sucked since deregulation and pay cuts ruined everything...
