ChristianTroy
Then again, a lot of people come to Thailand, only see Sukhumwit Soi 4, Soi Cowboy and Beach Road and Walking Street in Pattaya, only talk to BG's and then go home and claim they've seen Thailand. These people are probably the most moderate people about this issue. Worse are those who have never been to Thailand but believe that every thai baby girl gets the graving for selling her body with the mother milk! WorldFun
Agree with CT (again!) that this is a real issue in smaller communities maybe mostly in northern europe? No obvious easy way out of it, so yeah pretending to be taiwanese for a while might cool the pressure In e.g. Germany - even the big international cities Thai-farang couples might feel the stereotyping or perhaps rather the truth in stereotypes i.e. its weekly news that yet another thai wife was caught hooking on the side to finance her casino habit etc.! BUT that doesn't mean any of the more respectable thais start to pretend they're malay, singaporean or even lao - no they mostly tell most people that their husband is LUCKY to have such a good THAI wife
thalenoi
I love the dirty look that I get from time to time from a farang tourist bitch when walking with my young (36 years old) gf in the Udon streets.
ThaiHome
Even before that article she experienced cars stopping and asking for some fun .... while she were out with a baby carriage. So youâ??re telling me that a woman walking down the street in the "normal" part of your town with a baby carriage will get propositioned by complete strangers? Says a lot about your culture. TH It was in front of the school I'm attending. A respectable neighborhood. It say something about how some people view Asian women, and this media interest now does not help any. 3juddy3
Personally I wouldnt give a f... what looks I get if I have a younger asian girl with me. I am 38, thats very OLD to any good looking Aussie girls. Any Aussie girl over about 28 is generally way, way overweight with normal farang female fu...d attitude. Here, at the local shopping mall there are a LOT of beautiful young thai and filipino wives that I see. The only thing that I feel is total envy for the older fat ugly guy and I just count down another minute till I am back in LOS
AF16
It's not about age, it's about the reputation of Thais in our town. I'm two years older than my wife and we are both relatively young. It does not help. What stands is that in a small Thai community abroad, a lot of them have been involved in prostitution and it's all over the news. It's not a good situation for anyone. Nervous_Dog
Only way out of it then is to prove them wrong, get your wife to be involved in charity work etc, DOG

I can see your problem, and the frustration it can cause, but I don't agree that the small agegap doesnt help. I'm in my early 30s and wife is late 20s. We usually don't have any problems with judgemental people. Atleast not compared to what I see others (w/a bigger agegap) have. The fact that we are both relatively young and that she speaks good norwegian helps alot. Thai girls (something like 9 out of 10 Thais in Norway are girls) are starting to be a significant minority in Norway and media get alot more attention writing about thai prostitutes than african prostitutes because many people can relate to Thailand in some way. As long as Thailand has a seedy reputation it's not going to stop. We just have to learn to live with the occasional negative remarks from envious morons.
