elef
Do your "organic" means biodynamic? Because organic is a word from chemistry and as all animals and plant life (everything living) are organic, so not so good for use for something else. I mean the way of growing vegetables or fruit or any food where no perticides are used or chemicals. The foos isnt mass produced, and the land it is grown on is sustained. Its basically as close to the natural source as possible.
elef
I almost suspected that, no almost never seen some biodynamic produced food in Thailand. I remember something in a Pratunam outside food market, but you can hardly trust persons selling the food. You must be closer to the farmers and youself able to control it. Pom Michael
I believe Govinda's in Soi 22 only serves "organic" vegetables - it is a unique Italian/Vegetarian place.
..
I was at a New Year's Eve party with a chap who has quite a wedge (judging by his home, cars and the booze at the party) from selling organic fruits/veggies from Oz into the Asian market (including LoS). Yes, I was also surprised... Cheers, SD
pe7e
Organic Monitor's first report on Asia estimates the region to have more than 4 million hectares of certified organic farmland (13 per cent of the global total) compared to a mere 500,000 hectares just five years ago. The largest increase has been in China, but other countries with large agricultural sectors such as India and Thailand are also converting to organic production. But unlike western markets, consumption and production does not take place in the same countries, with a clear segregation between producer markets and those markets with growing demand for organic foods. There is nothing like this clear two-tier system anywhere else in the world. Sounds like a good business opportunity to me, especially relevant to you guys living in Issarn. If I was to do it I would take a good look at producing/exporting organic herbs and spices, the high price to volume ratio beats pineapples hands down any day, organic shrimps could also be worth a punt. It would also be easier to get the goods into the smaller specialised organic outlets, selling into the big supermarket chains is usually a bitch for small suppliers, on this I speak from experience.
