samak
Dali just saw this thread today i recommend to stay for the first couple of months in a service apartment; that makes an easier start. then you have also the chance to carefully evaluate your future accommodation. here is a wesite with a lot of apartments: http://www.roominbangkok.com/index.html most popular living areas for english speaking business people is Sukhumvit, between Asoke and Ekamai (not in lower Suk area) and Silom/Sathorn area Thonglor (which is between Asoke and Ekamai) area has many restaurants and nonp4p bars, is not too close but also not too far from the p4p area and there are a couple of quiet Soi's with decent accommodation but it is also one of the most expensive areas and you will find many new buildings with deluxe apartments for over 100'000 THB per month some posters mixed up Saphan Kwai and Saphan Taksin (saphan is thai for "bridge" so you will find many saphans). Saphan Kwai is north of Sukhumvit in Rachadapisek area and Saphan Taksin is the bridge over Chao Phraya river close to Shangri-La and Oriental typical maid salary starts at 4000 THB; you can not expect any english or skills at that level. i know expats who pay up to 15'000 for a experienced one with english
