Bembaman
Bear with me on this........ I am possibly moving to a new house where I am informed that True will take 5 months to put phone lines in. There is no wireless in the vicinity therefore this is a big problem. I seem to remember seeing a few years ago some service (I think it was CAT ?) whereby you plug in card to your machine and it had an antenna which delivered about 100-150 kbps internet connection - somewhere between broadband and a dial-up. I cannot remember anything else about it but does this ring any bells with anyone? What are my options with no land line and no wireless in cafe's etc nearby, or am I screwed? I cannot run to the nearest Starbucks every time I need to read my e-mail. Even dial-up speed would be OK as most of my requirements are simply e-mail checking. This is a problem as I work from home. The mrs has set her heart on this house but I also need to earn money so I hope this is not a deal-breaker on the house.
elef
We had a similar system in Sweden before but you need a landline to send - actually an ordinary dial up. The board specialist seems to be offline but as I see it you have 2 alternativ - GPRS (this is what thais call wi-fi - via a simcard) - 2-way system with parabol The first exists for sure and I think our BM has told us that the second exist too. carlton68
Bembaman, You seem to be in the right place. Internet via Satellite, even bi-directional. I think Thailand is the first (and only?) to have this. Nervous_Dog knows all about this. As far as I remember he sells it as well. You might google for 'ipstar'. Nervous_Dog
Other countries have bi-directional, but bloody expensive, in Ghana for vsat I pay $850 a month BUT in Thailand iPSTAR is about $80 a month. That is the iPSTAR uniqness. Call Accumen, TOT, SAMART, all offer iPSTAR I find ACUMEN the best. HOWEVER the thing you talk about is good too, its on the hutchenson network I believe. About the same cost as iPSTAR but portable, lower speed. PM if you need a ACCUMEN Ph No. DOG
