McBif
Whole story is unbelievable, except that he does appear to be dead. Familyâ??s shock as scorpion bite man loses life Jul 9 2007 by Katie Norman, South Wales Echo A MAN has died just weeks after surviving after a scorpion sting in a Thai kidnapping ordeal. Barry-born Gareth Pike told how he was abandoned in a Thai jungle and stung by a scorpion after being kidnapped by his Thai wifeâ??s relatives. His sister Pamela Roberts and other family members spoke today of their devastation after he died unexpectedly in Llandough Hospital early on Friday morning. He had severe internal bleeding and a damaged liver. Link
Fidel
Hmm... unbelievable..? Maybe. Toby Chernaud's story, being cut into pieces and barbecued by his wife's family, also seems a little bit far out. But I find the claim that he lived in the jungle for 4 months a bit hard to believe. Flashermac
Scorpions bite? And Thai scorpions are not deadly. They certainly don't give one an "infectious disease". Sounds more like liver flukes from eating raw Isaan "food". "The scorpions in Thailand do have poison; however, it is so mild that it is comparable to the sting of a bee or a wasp. The sting is painful but harmless; however, some people might develop an allergic reaction. The sting should therefore be immediately disinfected. "For conservation reasons please do not kill these animals, but catch them and free them into the wild." http://www.siam-info.de/english/scorpions.html
MooNoi
Phew... When I read the post title I thought some Welshman had gotten a little too over-excited hearing the song "Winds of Change" and passed out at the concert. That's a relief! Bangkoktraveler
Fark, this coud have happened. The rest of the article says: [color:red]"built himself a new life in Thailand three years ago after marrying a 25-year-old Thai woman he had met in a Pattaya bar. When the marriage broke down, he began a relationship with a 28-year-old Thai woman, whom he later married. The couple moved to his wifeâ??s native village, where they ran a shop but she later left the family home with her eldest son who lived as a woman, known in Thailand as a lady boy, to find work. He told the Echo his wifeâ??s male relatives had evicted him from his home before kidnapping him and abandoning him in a tin shack in the jungle, with nothing but the clothes he had on. After living in the jungle for four months, he said he was bitten by a scorpion and staggered to a nearby village. There a woman helped him contact Pamela, a retired pub owner, who arranged for him to fly back to Wales." [/color][/b] As you can see, this article is very typical of Thailand and how farangs get along with the local people.

cardinalblue
Nothing against this guy, but what is the expression about "making your bed and laying in it"... This story seems to have incomplete and huge amounts of info missing... Okay with the broken marriages with BGs. Isn't that quite common? Poor choice selection repeatedly.... But being kidnapped and dumped in a jungle and then spending 4 months there? A basic question...why did he spend that amount of time? Now his judgment, his character, his personality, his background, his lifestyle, etc really would have to be exposed and find out what really happened and why did it happen? Death by scorpian sounds like a simple "fishing tale. End of story. Our way of always trying to find cause-effect and plausible solutions and answers to much more difficult questions. The hows and whys of life are rarely this simple... We truly don't know what really happened let alone the actual cause of death... CB
shygye
Scorpion venom is a nerve poison, so it would NOT cause liver damage. If he was allergic, death would have come quick. Maybe he made up the story to get a free trip home.
