The_Munchmaster
....Within Europe I have a good live style and want to maintain it.... If you enjoy the cultural / intellectual aspect of living in Europe then you're going to hate Oz. :hubba:
3juddy3
True munchmaster, Not a really established cultural hub. Anybody portaying themselves as "cultural" in a pub here is seen as a bit of a KNOB. Better to play pool, drink cold beer, talk about travels, have a laugh. About the intellectual side of things, well I suppose it depends on who you are talking to at the time doesn't it? Anyway Mick yeah PM me with a week or so in advance, I work in the city. 3juddy3
Oh by the way we don't have a "kill the opposition football team supporter by smashing a glass in his face" english culture either
bust
There is also the sunshine fact to consider and it can go longer than 24 hours without rain. Daylight for longer than 6 hours a day may be an issue as well.
spirit_of_town_hall
Perth is supposed to be very nice. Lots of English people are moving there as the govt there wants people. I asked an Ozzy guy who works at my pub what Perth is like, he said its nice but a bit cut off from everywhere else. Also he said lots of English retied people are there. spirit_of_town_hall
I am surprised to hear that Perth has lots of Africans and Arabs. How long has this been the case? STH
Solomick
Thanks Spirit, Heard it was nice, I'll find out next month. It's more the standard of living I'm worried about. Job means a lot of travel to asia for business so there is some escape If I take it it means moving from a offshore 4 on 4 off way of live to a 9 to 5 office job. There's some good points in this and some bad, but it's a step up the ladder.
spirit_of_town_hall
The working 4 weeks on 4 weeks off has always appealed. I imagine when you are working you can lay off the booze and get fit ready for your month holiday again. It must be grim the day before you go back to work again. Solomick
That's always the hard part and the first few days detox It allows you so much spare time to travel and do other tings apart from work. The office job is 45 weeks a year with only 7 weeks holiday so it will be a complete culture shock.
spirit_of_town_hall
If you could go back to 4 week on 4 week off if you didnt like Perth its worth looking at. Holland is a nice place and the people are very civilised and polite. Australian people are very civilised and polite but in a slightly different way. One thing that surprised me about Dutch people is that they are very direct and this took some getting used to. Once or twice I was taken aback, for example if an idea is mooted at work and a British person were to say " that sounds interesting" it does not mean much, in fact it may mean dont persue the idea. However a Dutch person would just say " that idea is no good" which intially I thought how bloody rude of them to just come out and say that. The pubs in Holland are good, better than Australian ones. STH
