Gadfly
How do folks know he wasn't trying to steal the yacht? Makes more sense than swimming from Club Med just to rob someone. Good point. Hadn't focused on what he was trying to steal. If so, isn't this piracy? If he was trying to steal the yacht, he would need to make the owner and the TG walk the plank or just kill them straight off and toss them in the water. Pretty nasty plan. This would also explain why the owner and TG fought back so feriously. Not much choice if that is what Frogman was up to.
Hugh_Hoy
But this guy wasn't diving. He was swimming. In 72 degree water, I could work up a sweat swimming 500 yards...and 500 yards ain't that far. (In yesteryear, I'd do at least a mile a day and usually all in one stretch.) Maybe the wetsuit, if black, was just camoflouage? And adding to the mystery, it's possible he didn't come from shore, but from another boat in the harbor. I'm pretty sure it'll get figured out. Flashermac
What language were they speaking? If he swam from shore, there should be a car, clothing or something left behind. Maybe he came from a submarine?
Flashermac
Couldn't find anything in the Bangkok Post, but if got this from the cache. Wonder why the Post removed it. 11 Jan 2008 An armed man, thought to be a foreigner, died from deep cuts he sustained during a fight with the New Zealander owner of a boat, according to police. The fight took place on board a yacht moored at the Chalong pier around 11.30pm on Wednesday. The owner of the yacht was identified as Pierre Alain Oberson, 50, a New Zealand national. Thawatch Boonfueng, deputy commissioner of Provincial Police Region 8, said Mr Oberson and a woman called Pornthip were on the yacht when a man, believed to be a foreigner aged between 35-40, swam up close to the boat. He was wearing a diving suit and carrying a concealed gun. Mr Oberson invited the man on board. They drank beer for an hour and then began to argue. The diver took out his gun and shot Mr Oberson, hitting him in the shoulder. The yacht owner then fought back with a knife. During the scuffle, the diver was slashed many times on his body. He jumped overboard to escape. Pol Maj-Gen Thawatch said the diver's body was later found floating near the boat. He is thought to have died from heavy loss of blood. His face was also heavily bruised, possibly after being clubbed by a hard object. Mr Oberson was taken to the intensive care unit of a local hospital. Mr Oberson had sailed from New Zealand with his wife and children, who were away on Koh Ratcha when the fight took place. Police say it could be another four to five days before Mr Oberson is well enough to talk to them about what happened. They believe the diver may have intended to rob the boat owner. However, police are also considering the possibility that the pair knew each other. Pictures of the diver have been distributed to local cable television stations and immigration police. samak
the guys on the two links look pretty different! probably not such a unique name. however the stories and details of the encounter of the 3 person, the fight, the shooting etc. is different in several links and that does not make the story more plausible! Flashermac
If you were anchored 1500 meters off shore and a stranger swims up to you at 10 PM and says hello, would you invited him aboard for a drink? So was the swimmer really a stranger? Why did he pick that boat, when others were supposed to be around?
