Sanuk Social Levels

Steve

Recommended Posts

Some freinds and I were talking about our trip to LOS and having to really get to know the 'behind the scenes' lives and gossip and such from bar girls. There seems to be (and we could be wrong) some sort of social heirarchy level between these girls and where they work. For instance, I've heard of beer bar girls or massage girls looking down at girls who work at BJ bars (even though they themselves might give a BJ, but they don't have to I guess is their point). Is there such a social status according to the type of work? If so, what would you say is the highest to the lowest. I'm having a freindly debate with friends here and wanted to enlist other opinions.

What is the more 'worthy' occupation to the most 'lowly' occupation according to the girls themselves.

Go Go bar, Beer bar, massage parlour, BJ bar or freelance location?

Hi Steve.

Yeah, I imagine there is a particular status worn by these girls within the bar-girl community. And I'm sure a lot of this would be based on the vehicle of their occupation (ie. freelance, bar-beer, go-go, massage-parlour, escort agency etc..) but also perhaps more importantly I think it would be based upon their individual looks (we know how much these girls like mirrors and how competitive they can be), their level of English proficiancy and dare I say, their ability to be able to extract top dollar..which would be largely based on the first 2 points. Though having said all this, I would imagine that a cute little service girl wearing her cute little black-and-whites would see herself a step above a Thermae freelancer. They are both still on the game, though one is not so blatantly advertising it. I've often heard some go-go girls scoff at the idea of working in Thermae. I guess they see themselves as gainfully employed and in a somewhat more 'respectable' establishment.

As for BJ girls. They get my respect totally. What a lovely group they are. They belong at the top of the pecking order.

Cheers,

Dan

Hi,

I think that the pecking order depends on who you ask, but for Thais not related to the industry I would say that the massage parlour girls rank the highest. This is most likely due to the fact that they conform with the Thai idea of beauty, they don't dance naked on stage and they are the most expensive.

This same view is probably held by both massage parlour and karaoke/lounge girls, and possibly by GoGo/beerbar girls and freelancers as well.

So, I'd say the ranking will be something like this:

massage parlour, Go Go bar, Beer bar, BJ bar

Freelancer could fit in just about anyway, depending on who you ask. And even GoGo & beerbar could be swapped most likely, again depending on who you ask. This is certainly not as easy as ranking them alphabetically smile.gif" border="0

Pecking orders inside 'professions' is likely determined by age, experience, beauty and income. An over-the-hill ugly girl receiving 80K a month from overseas 'boyfriends' may very well rank higher than a 2,000 Baht short-time stunner who just started working 2 months earlier.

Sanuk!

I personally don't treat the workers at one type of venue differently. I certainly don't look down on the girls at the bj bars. In my book if a girl blows me, we're friends! In fact better friends than another who just gave a massage! (lol).

I know the heirarchy within a beer bar, go go or whatever (the prettiest, one with most customers, older ones, etc.). There was a girl who was at a beer bar and she left to be in a bj bar and her friends at the beer bar thought she must have fell on hard times to have to work there. given a choice they would work at the go go or beer bar than bj bar. That prompted my post.

not so knowledgeable about BKK, in Pattaya certainly some gogo mercenary stunners think higher of themselves, but there is such a "face saving" reciprocal attitude in LOS that i am not sure the subject is worthy of interest. Not sure if it applies to being more proud of oneself, as you are always reminded there is someone much higher than you in LOS (to which you add normal self-esteem problems, that can assail even a hollywood star), or just promotion degrees within a certain line of work. In effect, we have to remember most thais still live in a society where your social position is not so much what you think of it, but related to what is yout place in society, big marble stratas: king, tycoon, general, mamasan, sex worker, farmer, etc.... It's the inter-action of the individuals between these groups that define thai society rather than a sense of where you stand as an individual. No?

Well, speaking of hierarchy and status, how about that within the massage parlors?

I've been told that the locations where the girls sit within the fishbowl reflects their status within the parlor. Upper levels, to the right, etc. being the higher status locations. Others have said this was BS. Anybody have the definitive answer?

Sorry for the only-peripherally-related post.

Chocolate Steve's original post raises lots of interesting questions.

Anyone know whether the girl's have hierarchy or stereotypes among themselves concerning those who work at NEP vs. Cowboy vs. Clinton vs. Patpong, etc.

PS to Choc. Steve -- From bar stool, exactly how do you keep from looking down on girl giving you a BJ?? smile.gif" border="0smile.gif" border="0 ??

How about sanuker social levels? Guys who hang at Siam Square vis a vis those who can be found nightly in Pump Station drunkenly drooling and dumping loads in the waiting and receptive oral orifices of Thai penile milking specialists?

status is a very precise social thing. Not something about different work positons in a firm (like janitor vs clerk vs supervisor etc.) or a bar or a street. If some girl have a status that represents more than just a choice job, then the ones "below" them have to defer to her in the course of their social interaction, and not just by envy or looking up, or because she's the boss or makes more money: The "inferior" ones would have to feel, actually interiorize their lower status. Really not sure it's the case in the sex scene. See what i mean?
