Neo
The Phelps Diet kind of blows away the concept of what good and bad foods are. Generous helpings of eggs, pizzas, suger, and mayo. Hardly any fruits and vegetables.

USVirgin
I'm not knowledgeable about this stuff, but my dad recently told me that a kiwi official told him MANY YEARS AGO, that all Olympic swimmers are on steroids, up until a safe time before events. TroyinEwa/Perv
I'm not knowledgeable about that stuff either but ALL of them?? Every single swimmer? Not to doubt your father but I am a bit skeptical all of them took steroids. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that at one time or another a fair percentage of the athletes, including swimmers, took steroids but all seems like a bit of a stretch. USVirgin
That's why the disclaimer! Edit: My dad was probably referring to the 70's or 80's, not that things might have changed that much since then.
Old Hippie
I suppose with a little effort, I could cut it down to 12,000 calories a day.

The athletes are tested for drugs throughout the year; not just at competitions. Plus Phelps and some other athletes volunteered for drug tests 3 or 4 times per week, and having the samples stored for 12 years.
