Mekong
Not a single Thai group complained about the drug war murders. Not the Thai lawyers, not the opposition parties, or any other influential people in Thai society. So much for the rule of law in Thailand. The Thai government not only repressed and ignored most of the criticism from its own public but also feigned indifference to international criticism. Dr Pradit Chareonthaitawee, a member of Thailand's National Human Rights Commission received political and physical threats after expressing concern about the high number of killings. youngfarang
Im in for legalizing drugs for medical purposes and other certain drugs, such as marijuana. But for the big time ring leaders of smuggling heroin and other serious drugs that are killing young americans, I have no sympathy for what they deserve(life sentences w/o parole, etc). In Thailand, these were exactly the people who were NOT killed. A lot of street dealers will summarily executed by the cops, along with a few people not associated with the drug trade. No one is arguing that Thailand is within their rights to have a death penalty for selling drugs (along with many other Asian countries). Rather the issue was the non-judicial executions that took place under the Thaksin administration. And, none of the kingpins were touched, as far as I know. youngfarang
Weren't some of the head cops some of the "king-pins"? Or is this a touchy subject and not allowed to be talked about on the board?
