NEP Chainsaw Massacre??

Last night after DC8 I headed back to NEP. At closing time we were waiting to cross Sukhumvit next to the tourist police box when this girl staggered into the box and collapsed onto a seat, not really making any fuss but looking like she wasn't going to last much longer. She was bleeding from just about every part of her body, one of her hands was tightly bound up in bloodsoaked rags, her head was split open and I am fairly sure she had been stabbed in the stomach. She looked like 'Carrie' in the prom scene (or Drew 'Carrie' in the remake) or one of the zombies in the porn theatre in 'American Werewolf'.

The bewildered cop, unsurprisingly, carried on talking on the phone and trying to pretend he hadn't noticed her.

Did anybody see anything of what led up to this alarming end to the evening?

I don't get it. If this girl was in as bad as shape as you say.

Was the cop blind? And why were you "unsurprised" by the cops behavior?

If my alcohol-soaked memory doesn't fail me, I recall that 'girl' was actually a guy.

All the cops were out on the streets to handle the NEP tidalwave traffic and the Cop in the box looked like he was alone there for the first time and really didn't know how to deal with such a situation. So he just pretended there was no situation. But I also believe to remember that a second civilian entered the box shortly after to look after that unfortunate bloody guy.

Well, this is a very disturbing story indeed Mr. Long Gun. I certainly hope the individual involved survived the massacre.

But, equally disturbing is what seems to be a flare-up of your GMS (Gender Misidentification Syndrome) as reported by Mysterious Max above.

Accordingly, I have made an appointment for you at Bumrungrad Hospital for your periodic treatment.

Alternatively, you may report yourself to the 'bar on the second floor, left-side, NEP' where you generally go when mystifying episodes like this confuse you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Well, it was just an example of that curious Thai thing where if you don't look directly at something, then it really isn't there - you see it quite commonly on the roads, with drivers acting like there is nobody else on the road confident that as long as they don't look at the other vehicles, then there can't be an accident. Like when you 'disappear' as kids by closing your eyes.

This might sound like a load of shite but I cycle around the streets of Bangkok and regularly have to brake suddenly when cars pull out of side streets oblivious to the possibility that other vehicles may be on the main street. In a situation like that, try getting the driver to look at you while you sit glaring at him/her. If they do then they have to acknowledge that they are in the wrong and apologise - big face loss, especially as you are a farang.

What night was this? I was at Annies on Thursday night around closing time, when some drunken a**hole decided to jump through the one way glass! He got cut up pretty bad, and was wrapped up in towels, but then fled the scene. Anybody know this guy? I am sure Annie would like her window paid for!

Longgun,

Have a look at Stickman's site, Readers Submission (by me) Postcard from Thailand for driving and also noticing things.

Thanks for your concern, Pops, but have you seen those 'enigmatic' glasses that Mysterious wears?? Hardly a reliable witness, IMHO.

I'll give the hospital a miss this time around ...... but what was the name of that bar again?

Longun,

Yes I have been a pedestrian in Bangkok so I know what your talking about.

But it is disturbing that the cop takes that attitude on the job. A bloody guy plops down in your police booth or say someone starts shooting at you. Not the best course of action to ignore it!
