shygye
I got an email from a TG and she mentioned a grandchild (girl), but I don't think she used the right English word. On a Thai language site I noticed that "laan sao", à ¸«à ¸¥à ¸²à ¸?à ¸ªà ¸²à ¸§, is translated as granddaughter or niece. In Thai how do you differentiate between granddaughter and niece? Is there a more precise way of indicating niece?
khunsanuk
Hi, Have wondered about this myself as well, and have yet to find the answer. As far as I know the exact same word is used for both niece and granddaughter. Sanuk!
samak
surprisingly they use exactly the same word! otherwise they have (like in chinese) very extensive descriptions for relatives differentiating grandfather/grandmother from father's and mother's side as well as older and younger (in relation to the parents) uncles/aunts. if the thais want to differentiate they add other relatives in the sentence even they talk about themselves like "lung pai rap laan", "khun yai rak laan"
TheCorinthian
Hi, Have wondered about this myself as well, and have yet to find the answer. As far as I know the exact same word is used for both niece and granddaughter. Sanuk! Maybe it is just like my brethren in West Virginia. The same would for both... could just be a statement of truth!!!
