limbo
Has anybody experience with these international postal mandates? Apparently you go to a post office somewhere outside of Thailand and give them the recipients name and address, then the money for the transfer.then they digitally send the info to your nearest post office, they send you a notice saying the mandate has arrived, then you go with that paper and colletc your money at the post office. pretty easy...and much cheaper then bank tranfers, and completely safe. ICan this be done as described above for a recipient in Thailand? I never heard of it ehre in Thailand. Any advice appreciated.
khunsanuk
Hi, Are they be any chance talking about Western Union? If so, yes, can certainly be done in Thailand. Sanuk!
limbo
Nope, don't think so, different service.
drogon
This is indeed a different service. For example in France, this service is offered in most post offices, unfortunately the destination list is small (not LOS for example) and it takes one or two days to reach its recipient. Never heard of it in Thailand and looking at the Thai post office website it doesn't seem to be available. You have to check with your national post office
kamui
I received payment this way once from Germany to Japan, before I had an account in Japan. It was the cheapest and most secure way to transfer money, much cheaper than Western Union.
limbo
Thanks Drogon and Kamui, That's the whole point, it's supposed to be cheap and safe, but is it available in the LOS?
SiLeakHunt
I think it is a mandate precisely as the name suggests for post. Its a method of paying in advance for returned post, similar to a connect call where the person at the other end has already paid for the process. limbo
That's indeed what it is, afaik, but is it available in the LOS?
Sakai
The international postal mandate (express option is usually only available for a few countries). This is exactly the same system as WU -> the receiver will need to bring his ID to retrieve the money, delay is usually 2-3 days. Commission is lower than any other service (international wire transfer/WU/moneygram) -> this is available in Thailand, just check if the Thai post office is in relation with your national one for this service. http://www.thailandpost.com/product_servicedetail_en.asp?cat_id=8&product_id=44-S-000007
