..
The time article should be translated into Thai and read on the national news, displayed on public billboards, read out on the radio etc etc.... You assume that the Thai public-at-large doesn't know all about this? It was just more to the yellow cause of the backlash against TRT/et al and the other traditional powers that be. Faustian
Two of Chalerm's son's (Wanchalerm & Duangchelerm) were MPs in the recent PPP/TRT/whatever-they-call-themselves government just before Abhisit's... Poonpol Asavahame was a TRT MP in 2004, but finally got tossed and haven't heard from him in awhile. The others mentioned have been pretty low profile since 2001 AFAIK. Not sure about the others. Cheers, SD Nice, cheers...I'm sure they are all doing very well for themselves...nice to see they haven't committed any more murders lately (that we know of), so no need to get them acquited....must be expensive. Flashermac
Wasn't it Wanchalerm (now called just Wan) who was officially named Mr Happy Toilet under Samak's gummint? Samak restored Duangchalerm (now just Duang) to his acting rank of 2d LT in the Army, even though he had been dismissed for desertion - an unpardonable offence. But Papa Chalerm wanted his boy back in the Army, so ...

Cheers, SD Yes, I make that assumption, as I'd not heard of this litany of horror before, never heard it mentioned and if they've been in positions of power, clearly a goldfish memory effect is happening to most...scary stuff SD! Flashermac
Two of Chalerm's sons were dismissed in disgrace as police lieutenants. They had faked their exemptions from military service, never having reported to the conscription board at all. The ironic thing was that if dishonesty hadn't been second nature to them, they would have been exempt from conscription anyway, as they were by then cadets at the police academy. So the score card: 2 sons dismissed from the police, 1 son deserted from the army. Yet daddy is still a major figure in Thai politics. Go figure. Flashermac
Bangkok Post 7 Jun 2009 Thaksin resided in Germany Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra had lived in Germany for about six months, according to the Munich newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung. The fugitive politician showed up at Bonn's immigration office in December last year and used a valid Nicaraguan diplomatic passport. The Foreign Ministry revoked his Thai passport in April in an attempt to restrict his movements abroad. However, German officials confirmed that Thaksin was no longer living in Germany. The German federal government was said to be furious with its intelligence service that the ousted premier had been living in Bonn unnoticed for such a long time, since it could affect the bilateral ties between both countries.
