Flashermac
Only if you "cleared" it by firing it into the floor, as our idiot XO did once.
TheCorinthian
Funny you mention it, my last tour SNCO's and Officers bitched about having to use the clearing barrels before entering the chow halls/tents. "Where senior people we know how to keep our weapons safe." But we convinced the General it was a good idea. Know how many negligent discharges into barrels we had? 5 Two Chiefs, one Lt, one Capt, and one LtCol.
Flashermac
I only remember one by an E-3. He was a new guy and thought "clear your weapon" really meant fire it into the barrel. The first sergeant taught him a few new words over it.
