Steve
Suprised no posts about. No one cared probably....lol...Americans don't like 'soccer' and everyone else doesn't care about Americans playing 'soccer'. Great result but still think the U.S. team has problems. Organizers probably miffed there isn't a Spain v. Brazil final as a possible preview to 2010. Or even a Spain v. S. Africa final would have been a consolation for 'em. Brazil will do Team U.S...again but you never know.
TroyinEwa/Perv
Not surprised. It was just a matter of time before the U.S. dominated this sport, as well. I expect them to go on to win the World Cup for the next several decades. (Tongue firmly in cheek)
Faustian
I was impressed/amazed/astounded by the result. There were lots of news postings about how the Spain team was the greatest and hadn't lost since 2006 etc etc.... Now this. Well done the USA. rchapstick
Steve, I for one am stunned. So who scored the safety?
Steve
Not a safety but a two run homerun in the bottom of the 9th. Spain ranked number one in the world at the time and unbeaten in months. America got lucky as I said. They did what any team should do against an opponent that is technically more skilled, they worked hard, were organized and ran all 90 minutes. Pom Michael
... but lost 2-3 in the final it seems, even after leading 2-0 at half! Was on in the wee hours this morning - just read the summary online.
TroyinEwa/Perv
Looks like it should have been 4-2 but the officials missed a call when the ball went over the goal line and was quickly pushed out by the U.S goalkeeper. Clearly over the line, though.
Steve
Some may consider it a great accomplishment to be 2-0 up against the likes of Brazil. I am disappointed. I don't care who the team is. If you're two nil with 45 minutes to go you should win the game. A great opportunity missed to get the U.S. public into the sport and team. It made news for a few days and people were proud but it could have had the same effect as the '80 Ice Hockey team. The U.S. public loves a David v. Goliath sports story (even though in most things we're Goliath).
