dean
I actually thought he died several years ago but he did die today at the age of 97. I'll probably remember him best for his role in Patton (one of my favorite movie) but he was a very good character actor that was in a lot of very good films in the 1950's and 1960's (streetcar, Waterfront) and played Lt. Mike Stone in "Streets of San Francisco." He did American Express commercials for 20 years ("what will you do?" "Don't leave home without it"). I liked the quote on his death from his manager about the cause of death; "It could be many things, I mean, he was 97 years old." Thanks, Karl, for the memories. imperial
Streets of san fransisco was on TV here a few years ago , I never lived in SF but it was neat to see the city in the show, I wonder if Old Hippie was a Young Hippie in the background of the show ? Old Hippie
I vaguely remember them filming some scenes here and there. I liked him as an actor. Rip.

chelseafan
I was a fan of the Streets when I was younger, they repeated it a few years back and whilst watchable, it wasn't the same.

Steve
If you're a dead celeb, there won't be much note of it right now in the wake of the MJ death. I liked Malden as well. He was around at a time when there was room for actors who didn't always have to look like Adonis. He was a good actor even with that famed nose of his. It added some 'character' to his look.
