Southern insurgents are singling out women teachers for attack and are opting for batons instead of guns as weapons of choice to avoid leaving behind traces, a security source says.

Security authorities have received reports insurgents in the southern provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat were using new tactics in their attacks.

The source said women teachers were the latest targets. They are more likely to be attacked when they leave their homes in their free time.

The teachers become easy targets when they go out shopping without security escorts because they are likely to drop their guard, the source said.

Intelligence reports say women teachers are seen as defenceless.

More than 100 teachers in Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat have been killed since the separatist violence flared up in 2004.

It is the first time there has been intelligence warnings specifically for women teachers.

"[The insurgents] are employing silent operations to kill female teachers," the source said.

"Last month, a female teacher was found dead. An initial investigation found she was the victim of an accident as an injured cow was found near her motorcycle. But an intelligence-gathering unit believed she was probably the victim of a deliberate insurgent attack."

The body of Suni Kaewkongtham, 38, a teacher at Mareubotok School in Narathiwat's Rangae district, was found beside her motorcycle and an injured cow was lying nearby.

Suni, a mother of two, was riding to meet her husband at a grocery store in the district. Police initially believed she hit the cow and died from her injuries.

Meanwhile, the Pattani United Liberation Organisation (Pulo), a separatist group thought to be active in the three southern border provinces, has elected a new chairman and committee members.

A source said Kamae Yusor, alias Arbaekamae, was elected chairman of the organisation and Rusalan Yamuraenae named the new commander of the Pulo force.

The Pulo is believed to have teamed up with two other separatist groups, Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) Coordinate and the BRN Congress, to carry out separatist attacks in the deep South, the source said.

Cowards always look for the easiest target.

When I was in the Central Highlands in 1969, the VC hit an orphanage's dorm with a satchel charge. Killed a nun and messed up several kids pretty badly. Presumed reason was that we had leveled off a field and filled in a ditch so the kids could play soccer. The commies didn't like anyone getting friendly with the Yanks, not even orphans.

Terror is straight out of Mao. You are either with us, or you die.

:dunno:

This whole story is sick.

If these sick fucks weren't justifying their actions via their political struggle, I've no doubt they would be serial killers. Total psychopaths.

Killing someone remotely is one thing, doing it so close that you can see their eyes, hear their suffering, watch the life slip away...now that is called serious mental health problems. Add into the mix they are intentionally targeting women....

They are nothing better than serial killers. Total c*nts.
