jonjon058
The intention behind many laws is good, but the problem is that the intention is not taken into consideration when enforcing them. People lose respect for the law when common sense is not applied. In fact, what was once considered a serious offense by the public becomes less so when average people are accused and convicted of that crime. This lack of commons sense then undermines the true intent of the law. Lack of common sense is the starting point but even worse, after the mistake is made, ego takes over and instead of admitting the mistake the agency responsible continues trying to justify their actions. Mistakes will get made, but issues shouldn't have to get to congress or the supreme court before someone with common sense can put a stop to stupidity. As posted earlier, just being accused of a crime can ruin you.

I do blame the cops and firemen, as well as the politicians who allow us all to be blackmailed by these guys.
cavanami
Get to the root of the problem...The Federal Reserve, private bankers loaning money to the US gov at interest. There is no way the US gov can ever have a balanced budget when they have to borrow money and then pay interest on the money they borrow. Presently, the US gov has a 24 trillion bailout debt...WTF!!! ...and Bernake (the Fed Reserve) REFUSES to tell where 12 TRILLION dollars went!!! This is farkin criminal and the US gov let's them get away with this...another, WTF??? There are far bigger fish to fry then the police and the fire folks. Support Ron Paul's effort to audit the Fed. When was the last time somebody audited the Federal Reserve? It never has been audited! If a cop does something wrong, who do you complain to? Internal Affairs who are run by cops. pasathai1
as for politicians ( not just in usa) I don't think many ( if any) run for office with out their own goals in mind, and do whatever they can to stay in office. they are preceived bumbling idiots most of the time, but are actually cunning theives
Bangkoktraveler
If a citizen catches a cop drunk driving, it is almost impossible to have him/her arrested. We had one cop recently wh was severely drunk while on duty and driving an unmarked car and ended up smashing the car. The cops tried covering up the fact he was drunk and when he went thru the court system, his hands were barely slapped. The drunk should have been treated like everybody else gets treated. I don't know about the US but in the UK you don't get a pension til you're 65, that's nearly 50 years at work for some people.
Old Hippie
here it is 55 and up, some have early options at 52 etc...the pension is modified accordingly. But cops have the sweetest deal there is, ranges between 85 and 98% of their salary, based on an average of the best years...they then get a cost of living adjustment every year as well, firemen have a sweet deal, but not as sweet. This type of crap is bankrupting cities left and right.
SiLeakHunt
I have views on that sort of thing that make me unpopular with firemen and policemen. Why should we pay for them to get well looked after when we have to carry on working until we drop. In the UK after teh manouverings and direction of our current great leader a lot of us are going to have to work until we're 70. cheers
