Weird
A recent passing this past saturday morning got me thinking. How much do funerals cost out in Issan? What do they normally entail? Monks prayin/chanting for days? Doing charity?
Vintage_Kwai
Don't know about Issan but can give you an idea of an upcountry funeral cost. Also depends on how you go about it, having it at home, or at the temple, how many days (usually three, but can go up to a week) etc. Would say the average is about 80,000 baht for a three day funeral at home. This would include having the monks over twice a day, meals for the attendees, cost of hiring tents and such, donations to the temple, crematorium charges etc. You can go cheaper but very unlikely. A six-figure sum is quite common. Bangkok will cost more. Hope that helps. cheers VK
Weird
Okay.. yeah... someone told me her sister spent 100,000 baht for just the first day... and even though she tries to tell her she's spending to much her sister won't listen and pays whatever anybody asks for.... yikes.! Vintage_Kwai
Just basic costs. If you add the cost of alcohol the costs go up exponentially...

Julian2
Many villages, like ours, have a funeral fund if someone dies. Every adult... not sure about that, could be every couple and every single adult... contributes 60 baht if someone dies. I suppose that would be about 40-50,000 baht locally which would be a good start for a 3 day funeral around here. Wealthier people would add to this amount, the lady down the road who has a good income from her son in the US, as well as a popular hairdressing business, did her father proud with plenty of drinking and gambling with paid singers to entertain. Don't know about Issan but a normal bog standard run of the mill wake down south in the rubber plantations runs about 100-200k. All donations usually cover it. Good excuse for a piss up.
