Mentors
Thai Airways International has filed a civil suit against 36 people, including Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya, demanding 575 million baht in damages for the People's Alliance for Democracy's blockades of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports from Nov 24 to Dec 3 last year. Lawyer Bampen Sappasri, who was appointed by THAI president Piyasvasti Amranand, filed the lawsuit on Nov 24, the last day of the one-year statutory period, THAI sources said. Named defendants in the lawsuit include Maj-Gen Chamlong Srimuang, Sondhi Limthongkul, Pibhop Dhongchai, Suriyasai Katasila, Somsak Kosaisuk, Chaiwat Sinsuwong, Somkiat Pongpaiboon, Amornthep Amornrattananond, Samran Rodphet, Maleerat Kaewka, Praphan Khoonmee, Gen Pathompong Kesornsuk, Therdphum Jaidee, and Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya. The lawsuit states that on Nov 24 last year yellow-shirted demonstrators led by the 36 blockaded Don Mueang airport, which the then government under Somchai Wongsawat had used as a temporary office since the PAD had occupied Government House. The demonstrators also seized Suvarnabhumi airport the following day. [color:red]The blockades caused 575 million baht in damages to the national flag carrier, according to the suit. The damages included 35 million baht paid for hotels and food for stranded passengers and 402 million baht for transferring THAI passengers to other airlines.[/color] The court set Feb 22 next year for examination of the lawsuit. The source said Aeronautical Radio of Thailand has also sued 14 PAD leaders led by Maj-Gen Chamlong, demanding 103 million baht compensation for damages. http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews/162169/thai-sues-pad-for-baht575-million

sanddawg1
I don't know but I hope they win; PAD had no right to shut the airport down! Or it could be because Thai Air is in such bad financial shape now??? S1
CTO
Waiting to see what "reactions" would be - remember Thai is a government airline - so essentially Abhisit is doing this - serves them yellows right for starting their own political party! limbo
Serves PAD right, hope they end up paying. Imagine what flood gates could be opened by all those folk that could sue as well. Hey, hold it, the deadline has gone??? My parents had a couple of nights in BKK paid for, they were on one of the last flights into Thailand after the siege started. It was cheaper to have a Thai Air Jumbo on Thai soil than grounded at a European airport I assume. They left A'dam when the siege was under way for a few hours and got side tracked to Chiang Mai for a couple of hours before being redirected to good old DM and got put up in a hotel. shygye
Does Thai Air have receipts to back up their claims? I remember people complaining that Thai left them to twist in the wind.
