temfarang
as a 'silver evergreen member' i flown eva consistently for 8 years up until now 'evergreen class' has been +/- 20% extra, a search yesterday has it almost over 80% more than their econo ticket. I hate econo .. but for $600 I might beg my doc for a handful of blue Valiums to reduce econo pain.. i now wish cathay pacific used my current gateway .. a lay over in HK was always a big plus. Hugh_Hoy
Cathay won't let you lay over in HK? I dunno, since I've always just connected there out of my LAX/BKK runs. That said, I usually take EVA. Next trip will use some miles to upgrade to biz on EVA. And yes, E+ does seem to be getting pricier on EVA when compared to the lowering of fares in economy. EVA can do that, as they always seem to sell all of their E+ seats. BTW, you can get RT United for a great discount in biz class through a couple of discounters on line. And the beds are full-flat :content: HH
shygye
I guess you mean Deluxe/Elite class?
manaomaiminam
Could you pass on the name of the United discounters, I have been taking NW because of location, but the Delta takeover has changed a bit of the availability and convenience aspect. Might try to change over to United.
Hugh_Hoy
Below is the link. As I recall, the prices are tax included. http://www.iflybusiness.com/?r1=Round+Trip&depname=lax&dep=&disname=bkk&dis=&selMonth1=3&selDay1=8&selYear1=2010&selMonth=3&selDay=31&selYear=2010&adult=1&child=0&action=searchres&x=28&y=8 On the website, the price only refers to "major airline carrier". But when you inquire, they will tell you that it's United. Probably the same price from anywhere on West Coast. But don't know for sure. My quote was out of LAX. Add-ons from inland departure points are a whole lot cheaper than if you booked them separately (assuming United flys out of those points). Specialist
I'd be careful about flying United to BKK. A few weeks ago, they cancelled an NRT-BKK flight, and stranded a 747 load in Tokyo for a few days. Their gate crew went home rather than work the problem, and a lot of people had to make their own arrangements to get to BKK in a timely manner. (They were travelling for a seminar, only had a day or so of schedule pad, and United was telling them they were stuck in Tokyo for at least three days.) Hugh, flying out of LAX, you might want to look at American Airlines. Full Disclosure: I'm AAdvantage Platinum, mainly because American is the only airline I'll fly that flies real airplanes out of Huntspatch. Everyone else is RJs and down. (Delta flies a Super 80 out of here occasionally, but I swore a mighty oath several years ago.)
shygye
That doesn't make sense. There are a lot of airlines going to BKK from NRT. Plus you can connect via SIN, HKG, etc. When NW canceled a 744 to BKK, I was put on SQ (via SIN) to get to BKK the next day.
Hugh_Hoy
Specialist...American is over-priced for the route. I like EVA because, while not cheap, it is less expensive than most. Plus...the service is decent, they meet their time schedules, and I like the morning arrival after a night's sleep. Noonish return time is also a plus for me. I just booked a biz class seat for Sept. for $3200 including everything...almost $1000 less than what was available last month. I just wish they had "full-flat" beds instead of the angled-flat. (Had to use some miles to get that fare, but better than lose some miles at the end of 2010.) HH
Specialist
I agree. It doesn't make sense. But there were several guys in the seminar we were attending who got caught by it, and they were TICKED about it.
temfarang
I guess you mean Deluxe/Elite class? correct: Evergreen Deluxe / Elite is how it's listed on their web site.. not 'evergreen class' price has gone from (price over economy) $300+ fall 09 to $600+ Spring 10 .. $1100 fall '09 >> $1400 spring '10 .. while economy pricing has stayed static. I guess an extra $500 for a comfortable flight on a $3000 vacation is acceptable .. the economy seats 'kill me' (near literally) Several years ago I connected through LAX .. a move of residence has made that far less convenient ... I did not discover EVA until Cathay Pacific was not available from my current gateway. Cathay pacific has the best cabin staffing i have experienced + HK is always fun. the choice for me is direct transpacific vs 'domestic transfer' .. the 'transfer' from domestic terminal to the international terminal is a 'trip' at LAX the volume of transpacific flights makes LAX much easier to work with .. more airline choices + generally cheaper fares. I am 'almost' tempted to connect to LAX the evergreen elite deluxe class is worth a lot. edit: I used my most of my miles on my last transpacific trip .. only 18k left = nothing .. me thinks, the upgrade from evergreen (ok ok, deluxe/elite) to business looks to be a go next time business class = economy price + 65" LCD cost 1/2 the fun of travel is planning
