Thomas Jefferson removed from Texas text books!

The Texas School Board’s far-right faction has spent months now proclaiming the importance of emphasizing America’s exceptionalism in social studies classrooms. But today they voted to remove one of the greatest of America’s Founders, Thomas Jefferson, from a standard about the influence of great political philosophers on political revolutions from 1750 to today.

American exceptionalism refers to the theory that the United States occupies a special niche among the nations of the world[1] [color:red]emphasize the causal potency of God in selecting America

drop the reference to Enlightenment ideas (replacing with “the writings ofâ€Â) and to Thomas Jefferson.

Could the problem be that Jefferson was a Deist?.

Diest = Deists typically reject most supernatural events (prophecy, miracles) .. as opposed to evangelical theistic beliefs

The Enlightenment = religious skepticism, secularism, and liberal values, rooted in a belief in the power of human reason liberated from the constraints of blind faith and arbitrary authority

because of it's large population Texas has great influence over the text books available available to other states.

I recall when high school names were changed in New Orleans because they had the names of SLAVE OWNERS! George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson (who sort of fought the Battle of New Orleans) etc. Seems some folks of the African persuasion were demanding the changes. They wanted to name the schools after genuine heroes - black folks that nobody ever heard of.

Also, many of the "Founding Fathers" were deists - including Washington and Franklin, besides Jefferson. Maybe old George has to go too.

Does this surprise us? It should not!

Even the political 'right' has forsaken the 18 Presidents who ran this country from 1776 till Washington became President on 1789.

John Hancock, who was President 2 different times, [color:red]has been reduced to that of an expression asking for a signature.

The PC correctness thing does go a bit overboard. Also, the massive renaming of school nicknames both on the HS and collegiate level mostly to do with native american names like the Indians, Braves, etc.

Revisionism in text books. Columbus, slave owning founders and a few others are out.
