The red-shirt supporters of the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) would rally outside ASTV if the government allows the satellite-based television station of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) to continue going to air, UDD core leader Weng Tojirakarn said on Thursday.

Phaichit Akksornnarong, a well known folk song singer and a key member of the red-shirt people group, said at Phan Fa Bridge main rally stage that she would ask UDD leaders for approval to surround ASTV, on Phra Arthit Road.

Phra Arthit Road is not far from the Phan Fa Bridge, the prime rally site of the red-shirts.

Reds head to Thaicom station

The red-shirts from both Phan Fa Bridge and Ratchaprasong intersection rally sites have marched to Thaicom satellite station in Pathum Thani’s Lat Lum Kaew district to get their satellite-based television station, the People Channel, back on air.

Nattahwut Saikua, a core leader of the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), announced at the Ratchaprasong rally stage earlier that the red-shirts would go to the Thaicom station to take it back from the seizure of military troops and then reopens the People Channel again.

Mr Natthawut said the red-shirts would not return to rally sites until the mission is achieved.

Mr Natthawut said a report that the red-shirts would rally at homes of the prime minister, his deputy Suthep Thaugsuban, Gen Prayuth Chan-Ocha, the deputy army chief, and ASTV and NBT was totally groundless.

The red-shirts TV station was shut down soon after the government had declared a state of emergency on Wednesday.

About 6,000 soldiers were deployed inside and around the Thaicom station to prevent the red-shirts from entering the company’s ground.

Another 600 police were deployed in front of the company to confront with the protesters.

About 700 red-shirts had on Thursday tried to enter the Thaicom station but failed as they were blocked by more than 1,000 soldiers sent to guard the company’s compound.
