gobbledonk
1. I prefer 'Australasia' - 'Oceania' is a massive area and we separated from the Malay archipelago several million years ago 2. We sit on the Indo-Australian tectonic plate. Thats the same plate that generated the tsunami and continues to threaten the lives of millions 3. Our PM speaks Mandarin fluently, which is just as well given that the rest of us lost track of what he was on about years ago. A hundred years and the population will look a lot like Singapore - thats a positive, IMO. Yes, this is wildly OT, but I seem to have exhausted the internet's supply of vintage porn. All this time I thought Ron Jeremy made more movies than any human could conceivably watch.
drogon
I cancel my travel to Thailand. This is getting ridiculous to waste money there 4K euros = 152K baht when before 4K euros = 200K baht -> 25% of spending power gone so I better go elsewhere, well a weak euro is quite good for the economy here, just not when going to Thailand... Cheers

Cheers Join the club Droggie. :-) The dollar and pound have taken a beating, the dollar steadily going down against the baht the past 4 years now. Euro's turn now with their/your own financial problems in Greece, Spain and Portugal affecting the Euro. Not a good time to holiday in Thailand with the exchange. But then when I first started coming here it was 25 baht to the dollar and had been for ages. Now around 32. But it sat at 38 to 40 for a long time before the decline. Amazing how a few baht in exchange can affect your sanuk here. :-) Cent

They should be happy to get Euros, Dollars, Pounds or Baht.
Coss
The price of a 2K LT has gone up 5 NZ pesos since this morning! So if every one is dead, the country in ruins and no prospect of civilised life in LOS again, will the bht continue to strengthen?

Cheers Dude, do you go straight to Soi 33 for your hols ? Granted, I can work my way through 200k baht in short order, but it wouldnt stop me if I had a trip planned - I would just go to Pattaya and look for that 19-yr old who gave it away for 500 baht ST. On the currency front, the Aussie dollar isnt looking so good either. Guess we just have to grin and bear it - if the doomsayers are right, we are all about to ride the GFC rollercoaster again anyway. Wheeeee ! drogon
GD: I used to go straight to soi 33 as I wrote, I was planning two trips, one in June and one in August -> therefore the one in August is cancelled...as the calculation is quite simple if on each trip I have to change (for the things I pay in Baht, so not the flight) 4K euros x 2 trips -> before = 400K baht -> now = 300K baht....this makes a pretty big loss for someone like me who doesn't earn 20K euros/month But you are right GD, I am not the only one in such a situation and my US and UK relations already had to survive a similar change.
