rchapstick
I dunno, how about human rights? Would you have done the eviction in that manner? Would you have done it in, say, Detroit? Again, far be it from me to comment intelligently on this matter from my posh, sheltered life 8000 miles away.
LizardKing
Get away from the romantic "poor folks just trying to find a place to work" meme. Put yourself in the land owner's shoes. How long would you tolerate someone stealing your property from you? More than a week? I think not. Does that make you a bad guy? I think not. Removing squatters... rchapstick
Sorry, are you suggesting the shop owners in what is now Chuvit Park were con artists? The people referred to in your link ARE con artists. And the legal system should deal with them accordingly. But then, you don't live here, so ... I also note that no one is taking a bulldozer to a property in order to evict them. So how does this article support your thesis that the Chuvit Park demolition was somehow a righteous action? LizardKing
The original sub-lessor was the con-artist. But that does not make the folks who already knew that he was not the owner anymore, and ignoring a year's worth of eviction notices any less guilty. If your lease is up, it's up. No matter if you want it to be so or not. What am I missing here?
rchapstick
I dunno, maybe the bit about the bulldozers???
LizardKing
Strong? Yes? Over the top? After a year? I do not think so. Just what claim do the squatters have on land that they do not own nor have a valid contract to be on? Just what good is the deed to a parcel of land if you cannot get people who have no claim to it off of it? Again. I am failing to see the issue here. This is all about ownership rights. You are advocating anarchy.
rchapstick
So why not just shoot them all then? We have to stop meeting like this, or we will need an OH ruling ...
rchapstick
And if it was an "appropriate response, why do it with a nameless, non-uniformed militia? Why do it in the dead of night? Why not wait for a court order to clear the property, and then have the police do the eviction?
LizardKing
Stop being ridiculous. I'll send a group of Thai farmers to make a rice paddy in your front yard and build a hootch to live there to care for it. What will you do? Is that OK? It seems so, per your argument. Land rights are not a real legal issue?
rchapstick
Of course it is a legal issue. It does not mean I can act outside of the law to evict them.
