Wallenda
Never forget that this is the guy who ordered the midnight raid on the bars, shops, laundromat etc at what is now "Chuwit Park". Mr Nice Guy he ain't. Right, tho I'd expect to most Thais that would make him yet more of a hero. After all those were farang-oriented businesses that got destroyed. There's no problem with Thais having sex in massage parlors, but farangs having sex with Thai girls is obviously a disgrace. Regardless, my hopes not high for this character. He seems to be just another Mini-Thaksin, just another guy in it for ego with zero sense of ethics.
LizardKing
This is another thing that most farang tourists failed to understand. Those soi 10 vendors had been told for months to vacate. They were paying rent to a guy who leased the land from Chuwit, but his lease ended a year before and Chuwit wanted his land back. Finally after dozens of notices, they got evicted. I can't really see Chuwit as the bad guy here. The anonymous (I never saw a name anyway) sub-lessor, he's a cunt. Regardless, Chuwit had the greatest ads back in the day. http://www.2bangkok.com/chuwit.shtml And who can forget the kidnapping story? http://www.timeslive.co.za/sundaytimes/article112821.ece

Did he go to the police to enforce the eviction? NO! He hired a bunch of thugs that went in and demolished the area late at night! Now contrast that with how the CEP eviction was handled. Did he go to the police to enforce the eviction? NO! He hired a bunch of thugs that went in and demolished the area late at night! Now contrast that with how the CEP eviction was handled. I think that Chuwit was really limited as to what he could do as he had leased it to someone else. In his defense, he has unreal relations with police (even rumors of videos). When he asked a favor it was acted on with relish and gusto that might not have been anticipated. He has a huge business empire and this small piece on Suk was not a high priority and had he known it had the potential to become a public relations issue he would not have let it happen. If you ever have a chance to meet him do so as he is very approachable and quite likes falang. If you live in BKK or are there on business invite him to dinner and you will find him a charming guy. You will genuinely like him! He has probably treated his girls better than anyone else in this business and advanced money a score of times for parents' operations that may or may not have been real. There is a reason so many of the Rural Poor want their daughters to work for him. He would be far better for the Rural Poor than anyone the Red Shirts or their Rural Falang former Australian SAS trained killers advocate!
LizardKing
Aye. I've been fortunate enough to have drinks with him on numerous occasions at Cosmos in PP2... Shygye, do you think *squatters* in farangland would get any second thought in a case like this? So why should they here? Make no mistake, squatters are what they were. rchapstick
Squatters in Farangland would also not get bulldozed in the middle of the night either. They'd get their day in court, lose, get eviction notices, and get told a date to move out. Those that did not move out would get a visit from authorities and would get moved (and not with a bulldozer). But, as we have been reminded a lot lately, this did not take place in Farangland, and as I have not lived there for years, I do not have a valid opinion on the matter. How about those Celtics!!! LizardKing
Fine. They had 10 months of eviction notices... Yes, the removal method was extreme. But in reality, was it? What rights did they have?
