Lamock Chokaprret
Add Baan Klang Nam (I think that is the name) to the list for good food and ambiance (located on the Chao Phrya river). It is at Bangkok Square on Rama III. To get there, head up Asoke (away from Cowboy) at Sukhumvit. Go past the Thai stock exchange building and over about 3 over passes. You'll pass under a very large bridge over the river. Shortly after that you'll see two foot bridges - Bangkok Sq is between them on the left. Once you enter the square, the restaurant is off to the left and back towards the river. Yok Yor Marina also on Chao Phrya river is also excellent. It is on the other side of the river from where everyone else is but I think many taxi drivers know it. Not sure about the wine available at either establishment. Nervous God
Blue Elephant the one most likely to have good wine. Didn't the guy who opened Darling Street Thai, which won Michelin stars, open somewhere in bangkok?
LizardKing
Vientiane Kitchen & Blue Elephant are both sub-par food catering to tourists. I'd avoid. I don't know the place in Siam Square. If you're gonna do a Baan Khanita outlet (I find them over-hyped too but food is at least edible), at least do the cool one on Sathorn nearby Alliance Francaise. The best choice is still Benjawong in the Dusit. Trust me.
Flashermac
And I'd still stick with a place that caters mainly to upper class Thais, not furriners.
